P6/7’s Third Week…

This post has been written by our ‘Bloggers of the Week’ – Findlay and Gabriel.

This week we have finished our Learning Pits. Here is an example by Emma.P and Cynthia. This gives you strategies when you are stuck with your learning.

Guess who won the Dojo points? Its was Niomi with a spectacular 44 points!!!

Xander won star of the week for having a growth mindset.

In Number Talks we learned loads of new strategies in mental maths like making a friendly number.

Our reading homework was to do an illustrator task using a book we have read. They were all really spectacular. Here are some                                                                                                                                                                          011

This week in health and wellbeing we are learning about the green cog. The green cog is behaviours. We used the movie Inside Out. We drew around some P1s for the outline of the characters. We added behaviour words to them.                                                                         019 016

That’s all from us. See you next week….

P6/7 Week of Fun Learning

This week’s blog below is written by Niomi and Laurie-Anne (P6/7). Each week we will have a ‘Class Blogger of the Week’ and two pupils will write the blog. It is the responsibility of the whole class to record our learning during the course of the week by taking photos on the class ipads and making notes on what they would like to be put on the class blog for the ‘Bloggers’ to upload each Friday.

This week we have been working on Learning Pits and our growth mindset as well as mistakes.

We have also been working on Number Talks where we don’t put our hands up instead we used hand signals that we have been taught. We had to think of as many strategies as we can to solve Maths problems.

Our topic this term is Human Rights and Democracy and our class novel is the Hunger Games.

It is very fun learning in P6/7. We are having a great time. We all are adapting to our new classroom and teachers.

One more thing we have to say is our new whole school Health topic is called Emotion Works. We can’t wait!

P4 have had a busy weekend!

Hanna performed at the Usher Hall with her gymnastic club. They showcased Princess and the Frog and Madagascar. Well done Hanna!

P6 Have First Aid Training

P6 took part in first aid training today thanks to Mike and Dave from Lowport Centre. This was organised after P6 took an interest in first aid during our drugs education topic. The training was excellent and P6 have gained some valuable life skills. Here’s what P6 thought:

Amy says, “I was glad I took part in it because it’s an important skill.”

James says, “The dummies smelt funny”

Ian says, “Both the men who were running it said that I was the best.”

Arran says, “I learned how to do CPR properly!”

Niamh, “I learned how to put somebody into the recovery position.”

Euan “It was really fun and it’s a great life skill. The adults were much harder to give CPR to.”594 549 565 564 579

Famous Failures

This week in our Growth Mindset lunchtime club we have been looking at famous failures. A lot of famous people in the past have been discouraged but then went on to succeed. Here are a few examples:

  • Albert Einstein wasn’t able to talk until he was four years old and teachers said that he would never achieve much.
  • Walt Disney was fired from his newspaper job for lacking original ideas.
  • Lionel Messi was cut from his football team when he was 11 after he found out he had a growth hormone that made smaller than most kids his age.
  • Oprah Winfrey was fired from her job as they said she wasn’t fit for television.

And those are just four of millions.

Watch out for our growth mindset celebrity spotter display at reception.

P4 Go Eco!

As part of Eco Week P4 were set the task to work in home teams to design a sleeve that would prevent a bottle of water from cooling.

Pupils planned, selected appropriate materials and worked as a team to decide how to best wrap bottle.

Then they took the temperature of the bottle of water every ten minutes and recorded this.

We then shared results as a class and decided which material made the best sleeve and why.
