Dynamic Learning in P1!

P1 had a fantastic time at Our Dynamic Earth today.  Our first activity was a trip to the moon!  After sorting all of the things we would need to take with us we did a count down until it was time to blast off!  When we got to the moon we bounced around and then got to touch real moon rocks that were millions of years old!

Next we went to the sun (but not too close!).  We looked at how the Earth orbits the sun while the moon orbits the earth.  We had three very special astronauts to help show us how this worked.

After lunch we went on a time machine that took us back to the beginning of time!!!!! We saw the solar system being formed and then went to a volcano and through an ice age!  We had great fun looking at life on Earth developing as we travelled through time.

Finally we were back in our time and visited different regions of the Earth (we even got to fly on a shuttle!).  One of our favourite places was the arctic zone (it was lovely and cool on a hot day like today!)

The bus journey back to school was full of excited chatting after our amazing travelling through time and space!

P1a Eco Art

We have been enjoying talking about ‘Life Below Water’ for Eco fortnight.  Today we started using some of the plastic waste we have collected to create our own sea creatures and we thought we would share some of the ideas we have had so far.

P1 it’s World Book Day!

Hi all!

I hope you are enjoying Workd Book Day and are enjoying some reading time when you are inside getting warm again!

As you saw from our post yesterday Mrs Lloyd and I have been busy working on our door display so that you can help us finish it when we are back at school.

I am just about to sit with my daughter and enjoy a book and a hot chocolate!

Hard Workers in P1a

We have been really busy in P1 recently.

In numeracy we have been working on numbers to 20 where we have been working on counting (especially backwards) and recognising the numbers. We have also been learning the number stories to 5 as well as the take away facts.

In non-number maths we have been learning how to read o’clock and half past times. We have also been making symmetrical pictures. (I will add photos when I can)

If you have time between snowball fights and sledging (or it gets too cold!) maybe you could practise some of these at home.

Also keep an eye out for items in your home that are run by mains electricity or are battery powered.

Remember it is world book day tomorrow so enjoy reading stories with someone at home too!

I’m going to sort some things for our door display and cut out some new things for the classroom (and watch my girls have fun in the snow!!!).

A busy start to the year in P1a

Happy New Year!

P1a have settled back in to school well after the holidays and have worked hard this week.

We have enjoyed starting using the reading books this week and are looking forward to developing our skills this term.

In maths we have been looking at the stories of 2 and 3 and really impressed Mrs Thomson with how well we worked on these.

We also created days of the week boards that we will bring home next week.

The highlight of the week was getting to use the Beebots and watch them follow our direction instructions!  We look forward to using them again soon!

Can ‘t wait to see what adventures we will have next week!!

A Busy Start to Health Week for P2/3

We have done so much at the beginning of health week that we wanted to let everyone know about the special activities we have been doing so far…

We started health week yesterday by inviting Mrs Stewart to join us for our daily mile.  We had a talk from the ladies from Childsmile who reminded us how to brush our teeth correctly and gave us a chance to brush Dexter and Yoshi’s teeth.

After break we did some multi-sports in the hall as well as having P.E. with Mr Muldoon in the afternoon!!

Oskar liked doing the daily mile and Izaak enjoyed having a chance to brush Dexter and Yoshi’s teeth.  Abi has liked all the activities especially trying to throw the small hoops into the big hoop.

Today our morning started with ‘shake and wake’ in the hall as it was too wet to be outside.

We then did more P.E. with Miss Campbell.  Chloe and Niamh both said they enjoyed the races (I think the egg and spoon was a favourite!) and Charlie liked doing hockey.

Next we took our teddies to learn how to save a life.  We were shown how to do CPR by pushing down on our teddies chests and talked about how to call an ambulance.

We did our daily mile by walking round the school so we can keep up with our Bankton marathon challenge and finished this with a visit to the fire engine that came to the school.  We all had a turn sitting inside even though it was very wet outside!!

Health week has been very popular so far.  Here are some of the children’s thoughts about it…

“It’s been super fun and by the end of the week I will be exhausted because of all the fun!”   Cameron Ch.

“Health week is the best week ever!”  Casey

“I like to play sports so I don’t want health week to end!”  Jamie

P2/3 Reflections

This morning we took a bit of time to reflect on our learning from last week and to think about what we are looking forward to learning about this week.

Ryan enjoyed starting to learn about Roman houses last week and Alexander is looking forward to finding out more about the Romans and their houses this week.

Sandee was pleased with her work on adding 2 digit numbers last week and is going to build on those skills this week.

Chloe and Jodie are both looking forward to their learning in maths this week.

Niamh was pleased with her ability in gymnastics last week as she thought she was doing things better.

Paul is enjoying the challenge of thinking of different strategies in number talks to help him add 19 to different numbers.

We are all looking forward to a busy week of learning!

P2/3 World Book Day Fun!

P2/3 had great fun yesterday for World Book Day.  It was fantastic to see so many different book characters in the classroom.

At assembly we had chosen a group to perform a drama based on The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig.  They performed confidently and we were very proud of them.

In class we developed our team work skills when we completed the World Book Day Quiz.  Mrs Thomson was impressed with our knowledge of different books and we found some new books that we would like to read.  We assessed our team working skills at the end and decided that we still need to work on this.  We hope to develop our skills further over the next few weeks.

We created book covers for our favourite books after reading Charlie Cook’s Favourite Book and enjoyed it when P7 came to visit and read with us.  All this and having to be prepared for the reading alarms that kept sounding during the day kept us busy!

An active week in P2/3!

P2/3 have really enjoyed taking part in a variety of activities for health week this week.

On Wednesday we joined Primary 2 in the hall to play a variety of games.  Miss Edmond and I were impressed with the super team work during the games.  There were some very red faces after playing the cat and mouse game!!  Well done to our class winners Jack, Daniel and Oskar!  Special mention to Daniel and Izaak who developed the tactic of standing really still near the wall and hoping no one would notice them!! (there are more photos of this session in Miss Edmond’s blog post)

Yesterday we had a session learning handball skills.  We learned about the correct way to carry and dribble the ball and we even managed to move while putting the ball through our legs!!

Today we were learning about how to hold a golf club correctly and had a go at putting and using a full swing to hit the ball.  The coach was very impressed by how many of the children managed to get the ball in the air!
