Printing

P2 have been making printing template using string. Tomorrow they will ink them up with a roller and use them as prints. String printing is fun and easy to do.  The trick is not to make the drawing too detailed and keep the print very simple.

Beltane

Thank you to Mrs. Musgrave for her amazing talk about the history behind the Beltane festival. We were amazed by her Auntie Alice’s Beltane bits and pieces.

Mrs. Musgrave,  we thought your stories of when you were a child were really funny. You sounded like you had lots of fun at the Beltane festival.

You have really helped us to understand the meaning of Beltane.

Oh, happy day!

P2A and P2B worked together on a Health and Wellbeing activity this morning. We explored happy and sad times. Then we made happy and sad puppet faces to show how we were feeling in different situations.

Our teachers were so impressed with the grown up answers we were giving and the reasons for them.

It was lovely working together as a year group and going outside into the sunshine for a special P2 Circle Time discussion.

Our favourite part was dancing to, ” Happy ” and that is exactly how the song made us all feel .

How are you feeling today?

St Andrew’s Tower

When Mr Wilson visited Primary 2 he told us about St Andrew’s Tower in Peebles. Then we realised we can actually  see it from our playground.

Today we did a study of St Andrew’s Tower using felt pen. Once we were happy with our line drawings we coloured or towers in using different tones of oil pastels.

We are amazed by the fact that even though we studied the same building our drawings look very different.

Tooth varnishing

P2A have their teeth varnished today – Monday.

P2B have their teeth varnished tomorrow- Tuesday.

Please do not brush teeth the evening your teeth are varnished but, you can start to brush them again the following morning.

Keep up these sparkling smiles, Primary 2 !

Shape monsters

We have been learning about Area in Maths and some of us have created our own shape monsters. Then we counted the squares or used cubes/counters to measure the amount of area they take up.

We can take our learning outdoors and make shape monsters on the playground with chalk then measure the area they take up using our hands and feet.

How can we use the paving bricks to explore Area ?

Fotheringham Bridge

A big thank you to Mrs. Musgrave. We really enjoyed her talk about Fotheringham Bridge in Peebles and the story behind it.

After her talk we began to plan our own stories based on the three Billy Goats’ Gruff. Our stories are set in Pebbles and our characters have to cross a bridge over the River Tweed. Under the bridge there live a range of scary things from trolls to dragons and monsters.

Creating characters

Primary 2 have been creating their own characters, writing character cards and then making up their own stories about the characters. Mrs Finnie helped us to create our characters then we worked on the writing by using the picture to help us.

We have been surprised by the amount of planning we have had to do but, this has really helped us to get to know our characters and then write longer stories.

This week we will be learning about rough copies and re-drafting to polish up our work.

How did you feel when you had finished re-drafting your writing?

David and Goliath

We took our RME lesson outdoors as it was such a beautiful, sunny day.

We heard the Bible story of David and Goliath and learned the message about being assertive when people are unkind to us.

We had expected Goliath the Giant to win the battle in the story but, were surprised when it was David who was much smaller who won.

We are going to think about times in our own lives when we can use the message from this Bible story.
