In primary 1 we were thinking about words with the “k” sound. One of our “k” words was kite. We made our own kites out of paper plates and when they were finished we had great fun flying them on the field.

Today we watched some flamenco dancers clicking castanets. The noise of the castanets sounded like our new sound…..c……k….
We started to read the story of the Enormous Crocodile and made our own crocodiles to take home .

This week we read the story of The Leaf Man and created our own leaf characters. While we were outside collecting leaves we looked at the different types of trees around the school and their leaves. We then gave our characters names, drew black pen pictures and created our own stories focusing on the WHO, WHAT and WHERE. 

In P2/1 we’re also learning Signalong with Mrs Ryalls – this week learning greetings such as hello and good morning as well as the signs for mum and dad.

In phonics this week we learned p and n and are starting to blend the sounds to make short words. We’re also continuing to meet the Oxford Reading Tree characters, this week finding out more about Biff.

In numeracy we’ve been focusing on language one and two more, and using practical materials such as pasta to show this. We’ve also been making our own number lines outside and jumping up and down them to the number before and after.

We have several jumpers and cardigans in the cloakroom without names. If you’re missing one please let us know.

P 1 and P2/1 were very excited today because Mrs McGilp brought in her stick insects. One of the insects had just shed it’s skin. Mrs McGilp told us that the stick insects like to eat ivy and privet leaves. Some of the insects were so well camouflaged that they were difficult to see among the leaves.

We have been using our sounds to build words.

We have been talking about different feelings. This week we thought about times when we might feel sad and what we could do to make ourselves feel better. We shared ideas on how we could help others if they felt  sad

Feeling Sad

We have been sharing different stories in class about Kipper, his sister and brother, Biff and Chip. Kipper’s real name is Christopher but when he was little he couldn’t say Christopher, he said Kipper instead.

Biff is actually called Barbara and Chip is David. Biff and Chip are twins.

We will be reading lots of books, together and on our own about Biff, Chip and Kipper and their adventures.

Our new sound in primary 1 today was “n”. It was too noisy for Michael so  he wanted  to wear some ear defenders!

Mrs Collins read us the story of Mr Noisy and we made our own Mr Noisy to take home.

In P2/1 we have been amazed by the results of our mouldy bread experiment. This afternoon we compared the bread we handled with  our pre-washed hands to the bread we handled with our freshly washed hands.

In all groups there is significantly more mould on the bread we handled with our dirty hands. We talked about why this had happened and the children learned that ‘germs are lots of little tiny beasties’ (Brooke) and that ‘bacteria can grow and spread’ (Rowan), as well as how important handwashing is!

During circle time today we talked about what makes a special friend. Here are some of our ideas ..

a good friend is kind. ..helpful ……someone who makes us laugh …… someone who plays with us ….looks after us if we are sad or hurt.
