Number Formation

In Primary 1 we have been continuing to work hard on writing our  numbers. We have been using our rhymes to help us form numbers 8   and 9……

Make a s and do not wait when you get back you’ve made an 8!

Curly c then a line that’s how you make a number 9!

Friends

Primary 1 have been continuing to focus on being a good friend. We shared what we enjoyed doing with friends and what makes our friends special. We thought about how we should treat each other, by ……being kind, listen to each other and use nice words, helping each other, smiling and sharing with each other. We are going to try and be good friends.

Feeling Scared

In P1 today we were thinking about things we were scared of.  Some of us were scared of the dark, loud fireworks, bad dreams, starting new things and dark shadows. We talked about what our body does  and how we look  when we are scared. We used these ideas to create our plasticine faces and then shared the story of our picture with Mrs Collins.

Sounds

Today we were thinking about the sounds we can hear at the beginning of words. We had to look at the object, say the word and then write down the sound we could hear at the start of the word on our whiteboards. We then had to match words with the same initial sound.

Primary 1 Art

P1  have worked very hard to create this  display in the corridor. We painted paper plates to make the body of our robins and covered them in red and brown tissue. We think our little robin “Robin Red” will like them!

This week we have been sharing stories and learning facts about hedgehogs, Mrs Collins showed us a photo of the two hoglets (baby hedgehogs) that she leaves special hedgehog food out for every evening. We had great fun making our hedgehog spines  by printing with card dipped in paint.

Different ways of looking in P2/1

We’ve had a lovely week in P2/1. We’ve had lots of chats this week about how we all have different thoughts and can see things differently, looking at stories from different perspectives and also looking at some optical illusions – how many animals can you see in this picture?

We’ve spent more time outside looking at trees, and on Monday collected more leaves from sycamore, oak and lime trees. We then painted roots, trunks and branches and when they’d dried did some leaf printing. We talked about the different parts of the tree before labelling them. We’re also getting very good at recognising trees in the pictures of our stories!

In phonics we’ve learned the h and r sounds and are continuing to put these sounds together to build words. In numeracy we’re continuing to do lots of formation and counting out items.

We’ve had lots of fun in PE this week. We are doing running, jumping and throwing in athletics and playing games to build stamina.

We’re also enjoying playing, inside and outside the classroom. This week our play seems to have a robot theme!

Learning the “r” sound

Our new sound today was “r” and Michael showed us his very ripped bed time blankie,  that his naughty puppy had been playing with. It is now a ripped rag!

Mrs Collins read us a true story about a little boy who was afraid of the dark that ended up becoming an astronaut! To help us remember our sound we made some colourful rockets.
