This week, we finished our WW2 bunting for the classroom. We think it looks great!

Today (Thursday) we got to make War Time Honey Biscuits using rationed food items. We were so busy making them, and scoffing the lot, that we forgot to take pictures! They tasted really nice though and some of us chose to add cinnamon and ginger to our dough.

We also got our leavers hoodies today! We’re buzzing that the excitement of term 3 is nearly here. We’ve got high school visits, the colour run and our leavers assembly to look forward to!

We hope everyone has a great Easter/Spring Break!

Room 1 – 27.3.26

Last week:

– We had paramedics and the police visit us at school. We enjoyed seeing inside an ambulance and asking about their job. One of us even got arrested!! 🤣🚓🚑

– We have moved on to learning new phonemes. We learnt the diagraph ‘sh’ and went on a scavenger hunt in the playground to find ‘sh’ words that we copied and drew a picture of. We did do this on a very windy day so if you find any ‘sh’ words in your garden please let me know 🙈

– We have been learning about tens and ones in numeracy and played a game of rocket snakes and ladders to help familiarise us with bigger numbers 🎲

– In art we used watercolours, oil pastels or paint to create a picture of daffodils. They turned out great!

I hope you all had a lovely weekend! Not long to go 🐣

Room 5 Trip to the Windfarm

Today we went on our school trip to Whitelee Windfarm. We learned about renewable energy, and wind energy, during our scottish island topic. It was great to see them in real life!

Eilidh- We got to stand underneath the wind turbine.

Calvin- We completed different experiments testing different energy.

Beth- The wind turbines were big and we stood under them.

Alice- We learned about hydropower, solar panels and wind energy.

Emmeline- Lots of different activities.

Eva- We went for a walk to see some of the wind turbines up close.

Lewis- It was cold because of the wind.

Austin- The wind turbines generate the wind energy.

Isla- I enjoyed when we learned about solar and hydro and wind, and making electricity with them.

Thank you to our parent helpers too.

Last week in science, we tested our knowledge of air resistance and connected it in an interactive way to our World War 2 topic. We were given a toy soldier, some string, a bin bag liner and had to make a paratrooper that would fall gently from the top of the stairwell. We could cut the string and bag to any size or shape we wanted, then test them out. Some of us were more successful than others  as some paratroopers started to spin, break or fell too fast. All in all, we had fun and learnt new skills.

We learnt about V.E Day (Victory in Europe) and how they celebrated the end of WW2 in Europe. Linking it to our make do and mend learning, we’ve started to make bunting out of old curtain material and fabric. So far, we’ve folded over the bunting flap and sewn it into place, and we’ve cut out our first initials using different fabrics. We can’t wait to share the finished result with you!

Police Visit

On Wednesday morning, we had another visit from two people who help us in the community. They were police officers. We had the opportunity to meet them and ask them questions about their jobs. They answered our questions with informative answers and we learned some new information about their jobs. We would like to thank them for coming to Newton Farm Primary. We had a great time meeting you.

SC – They asked us questions about them. They showed us the handcuffs.

LM – They had keys beside one of their pockets and I saw a hat that they use.

MM – They showed us their suits and told us about their jobs. They put on handcuffs so the bad people can’t move their hands.

OMcM – They catch anyone who is breaking the law.

KH – The police officers showed us their hats.

DP – They told us all about the dogs and what they do. We saw how to use the handcuffs.

AH – They showed us their walkie talkies.

LH – We saw their cameras on them.

IC – They use the little stick to smash through windows.

Room 19

Room 19’s blog!

Hi everyone this is room 19’s blog! We are going to be talking about all the fun stuff we have gotten up to. On Monday we were learning about new fractions! It was loads of fun. We were also doing P.E in the afternoon. We played prisoner dodgeball and it was amazing!! Then on Tuesday we were practising some of our wonderful spelling words and going into our groups for make £5 grow! It was so fun and we are looking forward to the actual project to come!

On Wednesday we got a lovely surprise with a new teacher! Mr Mackay and we are really enjoying having him as our new teacher!

On Thursday we did maths and we learned a new strategy called compensation. We also did exciting experiments with hot water or cold water also with vinegar! And we put salt and sugar into the cups to see if it would dissolve. Thanks Mr Mackay for the cool experiment.

On Friday we learned about Easter with Miss Obrien. Then we had a special treat because Mrs Webber popped in for a little while! Then we did P.E again but this time we did hockey. We then did our Maths and spelling tests and we had 20 spelling words! We did more fun experiments but with flour this time. And to finish off this amazing week we had Fun 31!

Also a big thank you to our House and Vice captains because they’ve been working really hard on a scavenger hunt for the infants.

Room 3

This week has been full of exciting learning experiences and special visitors for the children!

On Monday, we were very lucky to have a visit from the ambulance service. The children were thrilled to hear the sirens and see the ambulance up close. We learned all about the important work that paramedics do to help people in emergencies. Everyone had the chance to look inside the ambulance and see some of the equipment used to care for patients.

On Wednesday, the police came in to visit us. The children really enjoyed learning about how the police help keep us safe and what their role is in our community. It was another wonderful opportunity for the children to engage with real-life helpers and understand more about the world around them.

To end the week, we had a fun house points scavenger hunt! The children worked together in their teams, searching for clues and completing challenges. It was great to see their teamwork, enthusiasm and problem-solving skills in action.

In the classroom, we have been focusing on the ‘sh’ sound in literacy. The children have been practicing recognising, reading and writing words with this sound. In maths, we are continuing our work on numbers up to 20, building confidence in counting, recognising numbers and understanding their value.

It has been a busy and enjoyable week and we are very proud of all the children’s efforts!

I hope you have a lovely weekend!

Room 8s fabulous week!

Good afternoon, we have had such a fun and busy week in Room 8 this week. We started off by introducing our new numeracy topic which is division. We know that dividing is sharing things into equal groups and we used cubes to help us to understand this. On Tuesday we had a very exciting morning out at the hockey festival, where we played against Woodside. All of the primary 3’s played brilliantly and made Newton Farm so proud. On Thursday we practiced our comprehension skills, finished off our Scottish dancing block in PE, and learned some words in Scots language. Here are some of our favourite new words:

“Lad” – JC

“Haiver which means to talk nonsense” – AM

“Aye” – OK

“Weesht” – YS

“Beastie” – ZE

This morning we completed our house scavenger hunt with room 7, earth were the winning house for our classes. Just a reminder that Thursday 2.04 is a dress down day and we will close at 2:30 🙂
