This week, Room 7 were inspired by the wonderful book, โ€˜Leaf Manโ€™, by Lois Ehlert.

After reading the story, we went on our own autumn leaf hunt and collected a variety of leaves, noticing their different colours, shapes, sizes and textures.

We then used our imaginations to transform our leaves into our very own Leaf Man pictures. We experimented with arranging, overlapping and turning the leaves to create people, animals and imaginative characters.

๐ŸŒฟ Our Learning Focus

Through this experience, we have been developing our:

  • Creativity and imagination โ€“ using natural materials to create our own pictures and ideas.

  • Observation skills โ€“ noticing and comparing the colours, shapes, sizes and textures of different leaves.

  • Fine motor skills โ€“ picking up, positioning and arranging the leaves carefully.

  • Language and communication โ€“ talking about our ideas, describing our creations and sharing our experiences.

  • Understanding of the natural worldโ€“ exploring seasonal changes and noticing the variety of leaves found in our environment.

  • Confidence and independence โ€“ making our own choices and expressing our individual ideas.

We discovered that with a little imagination, leaves can become anything we want them to be! ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‚
