✍ All Things Writing in P5/6 πŸ“

In P5/6, we have just completed a 4 week block of writing on poetry. We’ve had a look at similes and metaphors and even created our own biography poems and limericks.

Today, we started our first block of narrative writing. We began by looking at, and highlighting, nouns and adjectives/descriptive phrases within an extract from our class novel, Ever Dark by Abi Elphinstone. We’ve really been enjoying this novel and love how she can make you visualise a character or setting with her choice of adjectives and phrases. From this extract, we started to draw how we visualise the cabin in our own minds too. We need a little more time to finish these, though!

In our separate classes last session, we all watched Abi Elphinstone’s Authors Live event and found it entertaining and full of interesting information that helped us with our narrative writing. Next week, P5/6 will have the opportunity to watch the latest Abi Elphinstone Authors Live event for her newest novel, The Crackle Dawn Dragon. We can’t wait!

🀩 Exciting Enterprise Learning in P5/6 🀩

In P5/6, we have started our new enterprise project and are really excited about it! We took a look at different enterprising skills and traffic lighted ourselves on how well we thought we could carry out each skill. We’ll revisit the skills at the end of the project to see if we have improved any of the skills! (See photo)

It is based around Scottish inventors and inventions and we have completed some research work to find out who some Scottish inventors are. We then shared our research with the class.

Did you know that John Logie Baird invented the television? That Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone? Or that Sir Alexander Fleming invented penicillin by accident? How about Alan MacMasters? He invented the toaster!

Our next job is to complete a market research task at home to find out what adults wish had been invented to make their lives easier. We’ll then use this information to design, market and ‘sell’ the inventions!

(Room 20 parents/carers, keep an eye out for the market research task in your child’s bag on Monday 😁)

πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ Fitness, Rugby & Basketball in P5/6 πŸ€

P5/6 have been taking part in weekly PE lessons with Miss Finch, on a Thursday. They have been learning how to play rugby and have also been able to take part in HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) sessions in the pitches with all P5 and P6 classes together. It’s been great fun, although hard work!

During Friday PE sessions, we’ve been beginning to learn about different basketball skills and techniques. We’ve been completing lots of footwork drills involving quick directional changes and also practicing our dribbling skills through different games. Next, we’ll be moving onto passing, defence and shooting skills before combining all our learning together in team games.

Thank you so much to everyone for remembering to wear their PE kit on a Thursday and Friday! 🀩
