Last Week’s Learning – Room 7

Room 7 have been learning to spell words using the phoneme ‘ou’ (mouse). Our words included: mouse, house, ground, out, count and pounce. We used these to practise our handwriting, focusing on letter formation, including ascenders and descenders. We continued learning about instruction writing, focusing on ordering instructions using the time connectives: first, then, next, after and finally. We practised writing our own instructions using these as sentence starters.
In numeracy, we have continued to use addition and subtraction strategies and explored number families, linking addition to subtraction as inverse calculations.
We began learning about the process of making chocolate. We learned that cacao pods grow on trees in farms near the equator. Farmers split them open to empty the cacao beans and put them in the oven to roast. Once roasted, they are peeled and smashed.
Please bring your reading book to school every day.
Hope you had a great weekend. Looking forward to hearing your news!
