Newton Farm Primary School and Nursery Class

Our week in Room 13

Hello everyone,

In Numeracy last week, we moved on to subtraction using the written method. I’m confident every child who was present in the class last week can subtract 2-digit numbers without exchanging. We have also started practising subtraction with exchanging and will continue with it this week. We also started the 5 times table whilst still recapping the 2 times table.

For Reading last week, we were focussing on our skimming and scanning skills to find which page given words were on. In Writing, we made a writing plan for our favourite season of the year which includes reasons why. This week we will write our first drafts and add persuasive openers. This week for Spelling, the Red Rabbits and Blue Birds will be consolidating their last three phonemes, and the Green Giraffes group will start their new sound. Our Grammar focus last week was on nouns by naming people, places and things.

We finished our diseases topic in Science by learning about Sir Alexander Fleming. We reflected on what we enjoyed the most about the topic which was just about unanimously learning about The Black Death. We will start our new topic on the senses this week but at the children’s request we will do a one-off lesson on the Spanish Flu in the future as well.

Our mini class topic of Robert Burns has now ended. We have enjoyed learning some Scots words and listening to some Scots poetry. We finished the topic by labelling some human body parts using Scots words such as airms, shanks and lugs etc. We will start our new topic about the Waverley this week.

Fingers crossed we will get some better weather this week and the children will get more time learning and playing outside.

Have a great week.

Kind Regards,

Mr Dalling.
