New Year Selfies!

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, CONFIDENT INDIVIDUALS *

The Bluebells class enjoyed learning about New Year traditions today. We experienced a countdown and greeted our friends a Happy New Year. We also watched clips of the fireworks at Edinburgh Castle and the 2020 drone show in Shanghai.

Finally, we made some new year resolutions for 2020 and had fun making New Year selfies.

FAOL – Pine Line, Colour and Texture in Art.

The Pine Class tried out a different type of sensory art. Mrs Macdonald glued art straws to card and the pupils used foil paper to mould over the 3D lines.

The children ripped and scrunched the silver foil which was then glued to the card. Coloured paint was then added to the designs to create a stained glass window affect.

Excellent hard work by out successful learners.

Music in the classroom

Yesterday we sang some songs, and did the bean bag rock song. We had to place the bean bag on our head, elbow and toes.

We also investigated different musical instruments. We had to shake some instruments and hit others. It was great fun.

The Bluebells class created these fabulous zebra pictures buy using lines. With some support, the children cut strips of coloured, recycled card to make zebra stripes. Everyone was very proud of their work and they presented it to staff.

Focused Areas of Learning – Eco – Quality Education – What Makes Willowbank School Great?

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS *

This term, we are looking at the global goal Quality Education. We looked closely at our school. We recognised our school badge and made an attempt at drawing this.

We also looked at all of the activities and specialist rooms we have in Willowbank School and sorted them into activities that made us happy or sad.

As a class we ALL agreed that we love coming to Willowbank School and think that it is great!

IDL – Snowdrops explore Scottish foods

Confident Individuals/Responsible Citizens

The Snowdrops went to Tesco this week for our social outing.  Everyone made confident choices of snack and enjoyed sitting in the café with their friends.  In class, we have been looking at traditional Scottish foods and so had an ‘eye spy’ picture shopping list to find some foods in Tesco.  We even found some small Scottish flags on the shelves which gave us a hint of where to find Scottish foods.  The Snowdrops are looking forward to tasting some of our Scottish foods back in class.

Planning for Burns’ Night

It might have been the first day back but the Transition boys were Effective Contributors when they launched straight into planning for the next event, the School’s Burns’ Supper. The boys worked through a presentation which told them what a Burns’ Supper was and what they needed to include in their plans. The boys then selected different planning jobs as part of their SQA work experience.

Happy New Year Sungazers! – A Busy First Day Back

The Sungazers have had a busy first day back after the Christmas break.  We enjoyed our session with Centrestage – using the parachute, singing songs and dancing catching the bubbles.

We have also been busy doing lots of number work and made a number line based on the Chinese New Year ‘Great Race’ story.   We then used our number lines to find out what order the animals finished the race in.   We also made Chinese Dragons using a variety of different shapes during maths time.
