Responsible Citizens – Science Week Preperations

Stars New Dinosaur Theme

*Successful Learners        *Effective Contributors

We started our dinosaur theme by creating handprint dinosaur pictures for our wall display. At science, we did a floating dinosaur experiment where we saved the dinosaur by adding stones to the jug to raise the water level by displacement. We had fun lighting up glow dinosaurs with a torch and making dinosaur shadows. Mrs Gilchrist used a ‘green’ screen for pupils to act out being a dinosaur and superimposed this on to their chosen background. This was a very exciting use of technology. We used a switch to activate the microwave where we made yummy ‘smores’ by melting marshmallows.

IDL/THEME – THE ICE AGES

*Successful Learners* *Effective Contributors*

As part of our new topic ‘The Ice Ages’ we have been looking at different animals that are now extinct. We worked in pairs to research four different animals and then presented the information back to our peers. This was also a good way to practice our listening and talking skills in a group.

We then had some sensory fun to create a piece of art work with coloured ice cubes.

Happy Holi

We were learning about Holi which is the Hindu festival, also known as the ‘Festival of Love’ or ‘Festival of Colour’.

We were successful learners when creating a smashing colourful piece of artwork.

We hid the colour and tried to guess it, we then used a hammer to hit the pad and reveal the colour. It was messy, loud and good fun!

Asteroids’ trip to the Park

We had a great time this morning when we went a walk to the park. The sun was even shining for us!

We paid careful attention to the road and cars when crossing the main road and then we enjoyed a walk through the park, right up to the top then back down again, where we crossed the bridge over the pond and watched the swans and the ducks. It was a little windy so the fountain in the water sprayed us a little.

We all walked really well and enjoyed our wee trip out.

Well done everyone!

Titanic and science…plus more

Hello everyone! It’s been a busy week with comets. On Tuesday and Wednesday we did a lot of hard work and smashed it. Well done comets!

We did a science experiment. We picked items from the class and discussed if we thought they would sink or float. We watched a video about density and why items float or sink. It was fun!

We did some life skills after our local walk. We are still learning to tie our laces and zip up our jackets. We are getting very confident with both.

We looked at the classes of the titanic and what they wore. The comets then picked what they would like to wear and made their own little titanic people. We then did some titanic art work.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Ancient Egyptians

*successful Learners*

We have continued our Ancient Egypt topic this week.  We further explored mummification by learning about our internal body parts and also making our very own mummy biscuits!

We also really enjoyed learning about the fashion in the times of the ancient Egyptians and had fun designing and creating our own Egyptian jewellery.
