Successful Learners – Literacy

The Transition class were Successful Learners when they used their literacy skills to express their opinions. They added text to their favourite characters and then spent some time discovering dislikes. This was a hard task because everyone seemed to like everything. We soon found some things that no-one liked!

LGBT History in the Pine

This week we have been carrying out some activities for LBGT History Month.

We were creative and confident individuals and used shaving foam and the LBGT colours – red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple to create some interesting art work.

We have also been reading and enjoying different stories and talking about them,  below are links to a few favourites.

SQA Numeracy, a favourite addition activity for these successful individuals  playing skittles and counting up how many we knock down each time.

Working on our literacy skills, looking for the letters and making the letter sounds, then practising the alphabet with the some of our favourite songs.

In SQA Communication we were deciding which character was our favourite, making lots of choices.

Kindness

This week we reminded ourselves to be kind to others. We made a tree of kindness, danced to ‘kindness’ music and read the bible story, ‘The Good Samaritan’. We explored how to care for animals so that they are well looked after and happy.

Valentine Activities and Ice Ornaments

We created lovely Valentine’s cards to take home and made tasty Jam Heart biscuits, They tasted really yummy! We also made Ice Ornaments for the garden. We collected buds, leaves and flowers then froze them in water, not forgetting to dip string into the water before freezing. We hung them in the garden where they sparkled in the sunshine before melting.

Confident Individuals – Cooking Scones

Scones were the order of the week in the Transition class. The pupils were all Confident Individuals when following the recipe and using kitchen equipment. There were some fantastic fine motor skills on display, rubbing the butter into the flour. Some light tasty scones were the result of an afternoon of hard work.

Successful Learners – SQA Literacy

Throughout the week the Transition class were Successful Learners when studying their class book. This week was all about favourite characters and reasons why they were chosen. Quite a few pupils chose the baddie! They all picked words or symbols to explain their choices. At the end of the week when discussing Lord Asriel, the class started to make an airship similar to the one at the start of the book.

Chinese New Year in the Pine Room

This week in the Pine Room we have been celebrating Chinese New Year.  We painted fans, decorating them with Tigers, and made Dragons with long colourful tissue paper tails. We watched exciting videos of dancing Chinese Dragons and listened to some tranquil Chinese music. In cookery we made our version of fruit sushi (we know that is Japanese – but oh well!!)

In Literacy we have been working on the Letter J, and made some colourful Jellyfish pictures for our alphabet books, and searched for words beginning with that letter – how many J words can you find at home?

SQA Communication we continued with Inside Out and focused on the emotion Anger this week.

We have been rounding up our Scottish Theme ‘Hamish McHaggis and the Edinburgh Adventure’ and looked at the last character ……the Pine Martin.

We read the story for the last time, laughed at some funny Scottish words, watched some Highland dancing and listened to some traditional Scottish Music – we like the bagpipes in the Pine Room.

Today we did some Winter Art and then watched the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics, the colours and the music were fantastic!!!

Sorry we have no photos this week BUT Wilson has been posting too many and we have run out of space!!!!!  But our IT Superhero Mr Campbell will be coming to our rescue!!

Chinese New Year

We enjoyed a variety of activities for Chinese New Year. We learnt how the calendar is names after animals, made fruit fireworks with apples depicting peace and tangerines depicting good fortune. We tried using chopsticks and opened fortune cookies. We had fun making fans and dusted the classroom to clean it for New Year. We created Dragon Kites which flew well in the wind.

IDL – Social Studies – Glasgow Landmarks

There are lots of places of interest to see in Glasgow. We searched for them online and chose our favourites. We watched a video of inside Kelvingrove Museum and learned that Dippy the Dinosaur had visited there.

Successful Learners – SQA Literacy

The class were Successful Learners this week when they continued their study of ‘His Dark Materials’. This week we looked at the emotions of Iorek the polar bear. Everyone matched what happened to different emotions expressed by Iorek. We also had a quick look at some characters and their behaviors. Excellent work everybody
