FAOL – SCIENCE

*Successful Learners* *Confident Individuals*

This week we have been learning more about where our food comes from. We looked closely at where Milk comes from and created our own experiment to experience ‘Milking a Cow’.

After ‘Milking the Cow’, we followed a simple recipe to make Ice-cream in a Bag. We explored the ice and talked about hot & cold. We mixed the ice in a big bag with salt & then placed a smaller bag of milk inside it and shook it around to watch the milk turn into ice-cream. We found it was much harder for the chocolate milk to turn to ice-cream!

And for the best part…

Circle Of Trust

In the Oak class we have been completing Rights Respecting School work.  Article 23, I have a disability and I have a right to care and education.

The class created a paper person to represent themselves and added their termly educational target.

We also discussed our circle of trust, the people who are in our circle of trust and who is there to support us, care for us and protect us.

People who will always help us and never let us fall.  The class were confident individuals taking part in a trust exercise, demonstrating how much trust they have in Mrs Murray, not to let them fall.  No one fell!

FAOL: Eco and Sustainable Development – Zero Hunger

Successful Learners   Effective Contributors

The Moonbeams have been learning that not all children are lucky enough to have food and water at every meal time. The children expressed their emotions as plates were handed out to them. Some plates had plenty of food, some had very little food and others had none. The children identified their emotions on the board to show how they felt about their plates.

FAOL Enterprise – Jam Roly Poly

Successful Learners    Effective Contributors

The Snowdrops have been exploring the different fruits that the hungry caterpillar enjoyed eating.  We decided to use strawberries to make our own jam roly poly.  Everyone showed lots of interest, touching, feeling and smelling strawberries and bread.  Pupils participated actively in mashing and squashing the strawberries, using different utensils.  We then used a rolling pin to flatten a slice of bread and practiced our spreading skills to cover the bread with our freshly mashed jam.  We carefully used our finger tips to gently roll our bread into a roly poly shape.  It tasted yummy!

This Week in Beech

This week has been very exciting for the beech class – we have been learning all about the life cycle of a butterfly because we have five tiny little caterpillars in clas that we have to look after until they become butterflies!

Here is Alysse who has been a very responsible citizen in helping to look after the caterpillars so far!

We have also continued to explore the themes of Alice in Wonderland this week.  We made ‘talking’ flowers from the story…

And discussed the difference between good and bad manners.

In cookery, we made our very own truffle caterpillars!    Look at how cute they are!
