LGBT Activities and Purple Day

This week we have been reading and signing our book ‘We are Family’, learning about different families, different relationships and our community. We have made LGBT Flags, decorated  heart biscuits with purple icing…apart from Adam who ate most of his – they must have been good!!! Made a PowerPoint with photos of people in our community, made coloured sensory bags and attended a secondary showcase of good work. Busy, busy week!!!

Purple Day

We have been learning all about similarities and differences as part of our LGBT mini topic. We have been reading ‘Giraffes Can’t Dance’ and exploring what makes each of us special and unique.

We enjoyed being successful contributors and taking part in an LGBT showcase with the other primary classes to share our learning, then took part in lots of purple sensory and art activities too.

Purple Friday Fun!

The Bluebells had great fun this week learning about LGBT through their story, Something Else. They learned that everyone is different and that’s ok. The children made posters to show lots of different people being friends. The children demonstrated that they were confident individuals by singing and signing our class song, Different Families. The children had great fun on Friday afternoon taking part in a variety of Purple Sensory activities.

Cracking Cooking!

The Transition boys decided to try cooking eggs in different ways to pick a favourite. They had an eggs-cellent time! They were Effective Contributors with all tasks; setting the table, making the toast, cracking the eggs, adding eggs to a hot pan, taking the tea order and waiting until everything was ready so the class could share their meal. The boys were sensible – no yolking around!

The boys made scrambled, poach, boiled and fried eggs. The boys really looked forward to it and fortunately it was all it was cracked up to be. They were all eggs-hausted once all the washing up was finished.

What’s the buzz?

The Transition boys took a morning to update their diaries. They were all Successful Learners, choosing words to connected to activities they undertook on their week off. The chosen words were used to construct short sentences to describe the activities. Some boys had a very interesting time!

LGBT – Purple Friday

Today is Purple Friday. We are having whole school activities. This morning all the primary classes came together in the hall to share their learning and activities completed about their LGBT  book.  All classes also shared their song/jingle about family. Some classes shared a video and some classes performed it live. The Sunflowers had made rainbow pizzas and shared this. The Daisies shared  similarities and differences from their book Giraffe’s Can’t Dance. The Snowdrops performed their family jingle live with makaton signing. The Bluebells performed their song live. The Sungazers class has symbols to show the audience so we could participate too. The Stars showed a video of their song as some of their friends were on their outing. The Moonbeams had a board to share their learning and have used technology to complete their rainbow flag.

The secondary this morning completed the purple activities in the atrium. Some of the activities included sensory colour find with water beads and purple rice. This was a favourite. The Oak and Transition prepared a purple string art activity which looked amazing. The Sunflowers and Daisies made some purple lacing picture for their friends to enjoy.

Independent Travel with an LGBT Twist

Some of the Beech class enjoyed a trip to ASDA yesterday on the public bus!  We used excellent communication skills to ask for our bus ticket, Finlay used an AAC device to make sure she is understood.  We used great money handling skills independently to pay for our ticket and then again to pay for items in the shop.  Very responsible citizens  on our outing!

We found the colours of the LGBT flag and made a human rainbow!
