Robert Burns

We had a fantastic afternoon celebrating Robert Burns, we enjoyed our Burns Supper and then had a great time dancing the afternoon away at our Ceilidh.

We were very proud of Jack and Blake, they said and signed the Selkirk Grace and were confident individuals.

We were successful learners when we performed our Oak dance, the Gay Gordons.

We also sang and signed the ‘Flower of Scotland’ to everyone at the Ceilidh.

Happy Burns Day everyone!

5O Things to do outdoors – Bird Feeders

*Effective Contributors*     *Responsible Citizens*

The Moonbeams have enjoyed learning about what birds eat this week. The pupils explored birds seeds and then mixed up some ingredients to create Bird Feeders. The children all really enjoyed this learning activity and worked well together. Our plan is to hang the feeders in the garden and check everyday to see if the birds are eating from them.  We hope the birds enjoy their food!

Communication SQA: Listening Skills

Sean and Skye completed an obstacle course this week as part of our SQA unit on communications skills.  Sean and Skye had to listen carefully to instructions from staff at each station and respond appropriately.  At first, both pupils needed physical support at each station to follow the instruction but after a few times round the course Sean and Skye began to use their initiative to try each station independently with only verbal prompts.  Well done, guys!  Two successful learners!

Burns Shopping

The Beech pupils were responsible citizens this week as we made a shopping list for our Burns Supper and took a trip on the public bus to Asda!

The pupils took turns to find an item on the list using the signs and symbols around us to help us.  We then checked each item off our list and used a self-service check-out to pay for our items.   Staff were very impressed with the our young people’s independence!

We enjoyed Burns activities this week making oatcakes and a Robert Burns silhouette picture. The Scottish songs were good too.

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS, EFFECTIVE CONTRIBUTORS *

The Bluebells class looked closely at a range of objects you would find in the house. We had to sort these objects into things you would find in a living room, bathroom, kitchen and bedroom. We all managed to sort these objects into the appropriate categories. Well done!
