Make It Happen App Design

Make It Happen Club (SCIO) is a charity with the aim to inspire childrens digital learning. We are lucky to have been selected for their innovative and exciting App Design competition.

Your child may already have brought home their App design sheet and started to design. Entries are due in by Thursday 27th February and if their design is selected it will then be made in school and put onto the App store and Google Play for download. What an amazing thing to have a chance to win!

Good luck and h’app’y designing!

Cyber Safety

We would like to wish all our children a happy, active and safe summer holiday. We would also like to remind everyone to keep themselves safe online.
Websites such as the NSPCC, the BBC or government pages give good advice for parents on these matters.
We would encourage you to remind your child of how to keep themselves safe online and remind them that if it’s not appropriate to say the words to someone in person then it’s not appropriate to post them online or in a group chat.
Have a wonderful summer, everyone!

STEM Ambassador Visit.

Mr Burns came into our class and spoke to us about his job. Mr Burns’ first job was at Barony pit. He went underground getting coal. He went in a lift and broke his arm and leg. He brought in a model of a crane and was lifting things he also used to go on the top of a crane with a harness on.

STEM WEEK

STEM WEEK 2019

We are excited to announce that our annual STEM WEEK will be taking place week beginning 18th February 2019!

This will be a fantastic opportunity to engage our pupils with a variety of activities to convey the importance of (STEM) Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics in their daily lives.

Are you a parent, grand parent, auntie, friend of the school? Do you work or have an interest in any of the STEM areas? Are you an engineer or do you have links to the engineering industry?  If the answer is YES, then we would be delighted to have your help and support during our STEM Week.

For instance, we would be delighted to hear from a range of occupations including:

doctor, nurse, air traffic controller, pilot, mechanic, graphic designer, scientist, IT, accountant, joiner, architect,  etc

Could you please leave your details below including any thoughts on what you could offer our pupils and Mr McDowell will contact you.

Many thanks.

My Place – Schools Photographic Exhibition

Why not pop along to The Dick Institute and see all the entries by some of our P7 Children to the My Place exhibition? The photographs were taken to enter a national competition, but East Ayrshire is also showcasing the entries from local schools, including Gargieston.

The pictures on display include Laura Mitchell’s prize winning entry – Caprington In The Mist.

The exhibition is free entry and will run until 9th June, so why not have a look and see how many places you recognise from our local area. Here’s a few more to get you started…

Sam and Joe from Primary 6 represented the school at the K-nex quarter finals yesterday.  They tried really hard and were a credit to the school. Well done boys.
