The Rainbow Children

Many of our children will already be busy learning their Scottish poem – we can’t wait to hear them all!

I hope that you will start your Tuesday by listening to this short poem which is for all of our children at Gargieston – our Rainbow Children.

I hope that they will always remember to dream big and shoot for the moon. Even if they miss, they will land among the stars!

**IT Issues**

We are aware of a national issue with MS Teams this morning.  We have been informed that this is being worked on and it is hoped that the issue will be resolved soon.

Primary 1 Registration for session 21-22

Please see information below from East Ayrshire Council regarding the process for P1 registration for children who are due to start school in August 2021.

The process will take place online this year due to Covid-19 restrictions.  This saddens me as I believe that our process of individual appointments where parents can meet with me and ask specific questions before completing the registration documents followed by a tour of our school from our Gargie Guides is a very positive start to your child’s transition into Primary 1 with us.

Unfortunately, it is unlikely that parents will be able to access the school for some time.  Once the children return to school, we will share a virtual tour of Base 1 with you with examples of the learning experiences that your child will enjoy when they start Primary 1.

All children who were born between 1st March 2016 and 28 February 2017 should be registered for school even if you are considering deferring their entry to school.

If you have any questions or concerns about the registration process, placing requests or deferring your child’s entry to school, please do not hesitate to contact me at the school or via email.

P1 Registration to attend school, for children whose 5th birthday falls between 1 March 2016 and 28 February 2017 takes place during the week Monday 11 January 2021 until Friday 15 January 2021.

To register please complete the P1 Registration form at http://eastayrshi.re/enrolAtSchool no later than Friday 15 January 2021.

If you are unable to register online then please phone your local school who will assist you to register your child.

To register your child you will require to upload a copy of your child’s birth certificate and two proofs of your residence in the catchment area in the form of a Council Tax Notice or Utility Bill.  Should you require a copy of your child’s birth certificate for Registration, this can be obtained at www.certificates.scot

Spreading some festive cheer………

Some of our children from the ECC stopped by Howard House yesterday while they were out for a walk to spread some festive cheer.  Mrs Hendrie dropped off a big bag of Christmas cards, crafts and decorations from classes throughout the school and the children waved through the window at the residents.

Thank you is enough…………

Christmas is fast approaching and this year more than ever, we are aware of the financial effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and the holiday season on the lives of families in our area.   We are aware that some families may feel under pressure to show their appreciation to staff in the school or the ECC by buying gifts and presents.

Two years ago the BBC ran a feature about this with the simple message that thank you is enough. We want to share this message with you again this year to reassure any parents/carers who may feel worried about affording a gift for a teacher/staff member in the run up to the Christmas break.

On behalf of all the staff, I would like to reassure you that a thank you, a card or an email and the kind thought behind these small gestures, is more than enough for us.

Wishing you and your families all the best this festive season,

Julie McKee

Happy Retirement Mrs Barrowman!

Today we said a fond farewell to Mrs Barrowman after more than 20 years cooking for us at Gargieston.  We were disappointed that we couldn’t mark her retirement with a whole school celebration in the hall but the children made her some lovely cards and pictures which she loved.

Pumpkin Competition

As part of our Halloween Fun Day on Friday 30th October, we will be hosting a virtual pumpkin competition.

Photographs of entries should be posted on class Teams pages by 9am on Friday morning.

We can’t wait to see your pumpkin creations 🙂

School App

The majority of whole school general information is shared with parents via the School App.  This is the recommended method of communication by East Ayrshire Council and is also the preferred method for many of our parents as the App sends push notifications to your phone to ensure that you don’t miss important communication.

Please find instructions above on how to download the School App if you do not already have it.
