Cross Country

This term we entered an upper primary team in the Cross Country Championships at the Ayrshire Athletics Arena.

The children represented the school so well and we were particularly proud of the encouragement they gave each other as they ran.

With over 20 East Ayrshire schools participating it was a major achievement for Jamie Work to win the gold medal and Cameron McGarey the silver in the P7 boys event and Glen Cunningham to win gold in the P6 boys.

We can tell by the photographs that everyone had a great day!

Cricket After School Club

Following on from our successful cricketing year last session, we are delighted to say that Mark Colman from Kilmarnock Cricket Club is returning to start his popular after-school club.

It will be held onTuesdays from 3.20pm to 4.20pm starting on Tuesday 12th November for a 4 week block. This will be aimed at Primary 5 and 6 with priority going to P6 pupils. Depending on the weather it may be held outdoors or indoors, so children should be prepared for both. Boys and girls will be made most welcome and pupils who have been allocated a space will be contacted.

Remembrance Parade

Following a visit from the Kilmarnock branch of the Royal Legion, Freya Lee will be laying a wreath on behalf of the school at Sunday’s remembrance parade. The Legion would also like to invite children and their families from upper school to join the parade to mark this special occasion.

If you are able to join the parade, you are asked to meet at 10.20am in front of the former Kilmarnock Academy entrance on Elmbank Drive. It would be lovely to see the school well represented.

Please use the drop down below for us to gauge numbers.

The P5/6 Electricity STEM after-school club will begin on Wednesday 20th November and will run for four weeks from 3.30pm until 4.30pm.  Participation in the club will require children attending the club to be accompanied by an adult.  This is to enhance family engagement in the STEM subjects.   If you would like to attend please use the form below to sign up.  The cut off date is Friday 8th November.  The club is limited to 20 places, if more than 20 children sign up names will be drawn from a hat.

School Club Volunteers

Are you a Gargieston parent or grandparent with time and a talent that you would enjoy passing on to a group of our younger or older pupils?    Are you a parent  looking for the opportunity for some work experience in a school with a view to getting back to work? Would you be willing and able to make, for example, a 6-8 week commitment to pass on your skills to our young people at some point during this school session?  Skills could be in a sport (for example football, basketball, tennis in the MUGA or gym?),  crafting (for example knitting, sewing, art and crafts? ), or a hobby ( for example chess,  music, gardening ?) .

We are looking for any volunteers who have a skill or talent our children would benefit from who would be willing to help with our Friday afternoon electives and/or with a lunchtime club?

If this is something you would consider please contact  the school. We would love to hear from you.
