P2/3 Happy Summer Holiday – 24/6/20

Hello Everyone,

I would just like to wish everyone a lovely Summer Holiday and hope the sun shines for us.  It has been a different last term for everyone but we have managed to come through it.  I would like to thank all parents for their support over the last year and for all the good work you have done with your children during the last few months.  I know I have spoken to most you on the phone over the last couple of days and it was really nice to speak to you.

I am going to miss all the Primary 3’s who are moving up next year and will look forward to seeing everyone else after the summer.

You have all been an amazing class this year and have worked hard.  Enjoy your summer holidays everyone.

Take care and stay safe.

Mrs McLachlan.

P2/3 Home Learning 22/6/20

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all well and happy.  I can’t believe this is the last week in June and the last week of school before the Summer holidays.  I hope the sun shines for everyone and you all have fun with your families.  Here are some fun ideas for Home Learning for this week,  I have given you your tasks  a bit differently because it is the last week.  I have made a grid for you to open and try the different fun activities if you can.  You can try as many as you want in a day or just do one a day of your choice.  Remember you still have books on Bug Club that you can read whenever you want.

Take care everyone, I miss you all and will see you after the Summer holidays.  It has been a pleasure teaching you all this year.  Have a fantastic summer everyone and stay safe.

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all well and staying safe.  I am missing you all and I hope you all managed to get outside and enjoy that beautiful day yesterday.   I am just checking in with you for another weeks Home Learning activities.  Remember to just do what you can as the most important thing is that you are staying safe.

Take care everyone.

Literacy

P2 and P3 – Look at your Active Literacy sounds sheet and practise the new words with the ‘a-e’ spelling.  Your words for this week are cake, came, spade, brake, name and sale.  Practise writing the words for this spelling in your laminated Elkonin Boxes in your pack.  Write 3 sentences using some of your new words.  I have put a link below to Geraldine the Giraffe for you to watch to help with your new spelling pattern.

Bug Club – Reading

Log on to Bug Club and read 2 of your books.  Try reading the book to an adult once you have read it yourself and ask them to point out words for you to read.  Remember you can also read any books you have around the house to help practise your reading.

Writing

For writing this week I want you to think of 5 of your favourite animals and write at least one sentence for each one about what you like about them.  Remember to put capital letters and full stops when you are writing in sentences.  After you have written your sentences you could draw a picture of each animal you chose.  Here are some pictures of some animals to give you ideas but you write about your favourite animals.  I have copied a link below to a sheet you can either print or just use as an idea to get you started.

P2 – This week you are going to be completing an emoji to 20 colouring page.  You have to add the sums first then see what colour you need to use to colour them in.  Once you have completed all the calculations you can see what picture you have made.  There is also one for subtraction within 20 so if you want to challenge yourself you can try this.  Here is the link below to click on the sheet to print it.

Emoji to 20 colouring page

P3 – This week you are going to be working on Fact Families again.  We have done this in class lots of times so you know how to complete the sheets.  There are 4 different sheets for you to try, just see what  you can do.  I wonder how many of you would be able to do the challenge one at the end up to 100?  Click on the link below to see the sheets and print them.  If you don’t have a printer you could copy the numbers out on a piece of paper and try some.

Addition and Subtraction Fact Families

P2 and P3 – This week we are looking at Data Handling.  We have already been using tally marks to count items and put in a chart.  I want you to look at the BBC Bitesize short video clips to show you how we can display data.  Click on the link below.  Just watch the clips for Data Table and How Can Data be Displayed.

Stem – Our Stem activity for this week is to build a Magical Woodland Den for your toys.  You will need sticks, leaves and twigs (which you could collect on your daily walk), string, ribbons, paint and toys (optional).  I have attached some photographs below to help you make the den.  When it is complete you can add any toys you want, it might be lego characters, fairy dolls or any toy you want.

Art – This week you can either draw or paint a picture of your family.  After you have painted it you can hang it up somewhere in your house.  Maybe an adult could help you make a frame for it out of cardboard to display it better.

Writing

For writing this week we are going to be writing instructions on How to Plant Sunflower Seeds.  Watch the short video clip below on BBC Bitesize about planting sunflower seeds and then write a set of instructions on what you do.  We wrote instructions 2 weeks ago so just set them out the same way.  Remember what did they do first, second, third and fourth.  I have also put a set of instructions sheet below for you to print out and use to help you with your writing.  If you don’t have a printer just write them on a sheet of paper.

Missing number timestables

P2 and P3 – Go on to Topmarks and practise the Subtraction Grid below.  You can start with one missing number then you can challenge yourself for two.  See how high you can go.  Can you try some up to 100?

P2/3 Home Learning 1/6/20

Hello everyone,

I hope you all had a lovely weekend with your families.  I can’t believe we are in June already.  I am just checking in with you to give you your Home Learning Activities for this week.  Remember to just do what you can as these are only suggestions to help you.  The most important thing is to stay safe and well.  I miss you all.

Take care.

Literacy

P2 and P3 – Look at your Active Literacy sounds sheet and practise the new words with the ‘i-e’ spelling.  Your words for this week are side, white, smile, hide and shine.  This is a bit different this week because the two letters are not together there is a letter in the middle of them.  Practise writing the words for this spelling in your laminated Elkonin Boxes in your pack.  Write 3 sentences using some of your new words.  I have put a link below for Geraldine the Giraffe for you to watch to help with your new spelling pattern.

Bug Club – Reading

Log on to Bug Club and read 2 of your books.  Ask an adult to help with any tricky words and see if you can find any of your new spelling words in your book.

Writing

For writing this week I thought we could write a letter and send it to someone you are missing.  It might be a family member or a special friend.  We have written letters in school before.  You could either write it on a piece of paper, remember to start your letter with ‘Dear’ or you could use a template below that the Royal Mail have made to help us keep in contact with loved ones.  They are all lovely Sending Big Hugs sheets.  Have a look and see what one you would like to use.  You might even want to use more than one.  You could then post it with the help of an adult to that special person.  I have shared the link below to help you access the Big Hugs Activities and I have put an image you could print as well.

Addition to 20

P3 – This week Primary 3 are working on word problems again and this week it is using your knowledge of the 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 times tables to help you.  If you are unsure of any of these times tables you could practise writing it out on a sheet of paper with an adult and then use your answers to help you.  Click on the link below to see the sheet.

Word problems x2 to x5

P2 and P3 – We are going to be completing another activity using tally marks.  This activity shows you how many tally marks you write for each number.  This is a challenge for you.  Click on the link below to print the sheet or you can just view it.

Tally Activity

P2 and P3 – Practise odd and even numbers on the Coconut Game on Topmarks.  See how high you can go.  The link is below.

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/coconut-odd-or-even

Arts and Crafts – A nice art activity you could try this week is to make a hot air balloon out of paper and once you have finished it you could either hang it up at a window in your house or outside on a tree or bush.  All you need is paper, string and a carboard tube.  I have attached a picture below to help you.

Stem – I have attached the 30 Day Lego Challenge Grid again.  Try 2 different challenges this week if you have lego at home.  If you don’t have lego you can use any construction materials you have.

30 Day Lego Challenge

Health and Wellbeing/Time – Use a watch or a timer to work out how long your daily walk takes.  Do the same route again another day and time it and notice how long your walk takes this time.  Is it faster or slower?
