P2/3 Home Learning 27/5/20

Hello everyone,

I hope you have all had a nice holiday weekend and been able to get outdoors some of the time.  I am posting new home learning activities for you to try this week, remember to just do what you can, these are only suggestions.  The important thing is to stay safe and healthy.  Have a nice week everyone.

Take care, I miss you all.

Mrs McLachlan

Literacy

P2 and P3 – Look at your Active Literacy sounds sheet and practise the new words for the ‘y’ sound.  Most of these words end in ‘y’ but one has the sound in the middle.  Your words for this week are fly, shy, cry, sky, why, dry and myself.  Practise writing the words for that sound in your laminated Elkonin Boxes in your pack and see if you can think of any more words ending in ‘y’.  Write 3 sentences using some of your new words.

Bug Club – Reading

Log on to Bug Club and read 2 of your books.  Ask an adult to help with any tricky words and see if you can find any of your new spelling words in your reading book.  Well done to everyone who has been reading their books.

Writing

For writing this week you are going to make a sandwich for your lunch of your choice.  You will need to ask an adult first if you can do this.  After you have eaten your delicious sandwich you have to write a set of instructions on what you did.  These instructions have to be numbered in the correct order.  You will need to write what you did first for example:-

  1.  I got two slices of bread from the bread bin.

then what you did next

2.  I spread each side with butter.

List in order until you have finished writing your instructions.  We have written instructions in class before, can you remember?

I have attached a link below for a style you can use.  You could either print it or just use it as an idea.

Numeracy

P2 – We are going to revise Number Bonds to 20.  This is something we need to keep practising which will help us with mental calculations.  I have attached a link below for you to print the sheets you need.  This is a challenge this week to see if you can complete the easy sheet, the medium or the tricky one.  Some people might want to try all three.

Number bonds to 20

P3 – We are going to be adding a 2 digit number to a 2 digit number using partitioning.  Remember we were trying this in class just before we finished.

Here is an example:-

32 + 26 =

You add the tens then you add the ones.

Try the sums on the attached sheet.  If you can’t print the sheet just copy out the sums that you can see.  If you click on the link you will still see the sheet.

Adding a 2 digit number to a 2 digit number

P2 and P3 – Go on to Topmarks site and go into addition and subtraction.  Play the Blast Off game ‘Count on and Back’.  Start at 30 to 60 then challenge yourself and go up to 60-99.  The link is below.

P2 and P3 – Continue logging on to Sum Dog and playing games.

Stem – I have attached below a 30 Day Lego Challenge Grid.  You can pick what challenges you want to complete this week if you have lego at home.

Literacy

P2 and P3 – Look at your Active Literacy sounds sheet and practise the new words for the ‘igh’ sound.  These words are high, right, thigh, bright, might and light.  This is quite a tricky sound this week.  Challenge yourself and see if you can think of any more ‘igh’ words.  An adult can help you with the correct spelling.  Write 3 sentences using one of your words in each sentence.

Bug Club – Reading

Well done to everyone who has been reading your reading books.  Log on to Bug Club and read 2 of your books.  Ask an adult to help you with  the tricky words.  See how many ‘igh’ words you can find in your reading book and write them down.  If you have other books at home you could look and see if there are any ‘igh’ words in them.

Writing

This week for writing I thought you could help your family write their shopping list.  When we are writing lists we write one item then underneath we write the next item.  Try using bullet points for this, I will show you a style underneath.  All you need is a sheet of paper and a pencil, start by writing at the top of the paper Shopping List then underneath write all the items your family need.  This is something you will need an adult to work with you, even if they just read out the items you need and you write them down.  I have attached a style below but you can make up your own style.

Numeracy

P2 – We are going to be counting in Tens and Ones this week.  This is revision of what we have already done in class.  Log on to BBC Bitesize Website and go through the activities, the link is below.  You can also try the activities for multiplying by 2, 5 and 10.

P2 and P3 – We are going to try some word problems this week.  Just like we have done before in class on the big board.  Remember you need to read the problems first and think about how you are going to do the calculation.  Is it adding or subtracting?  An adult can help you with the reading if you are not sure of some of the words.  Just click on the link below to see the sheet, you can print it if you want.

Word Problems

P2 and P3 – We have been learning the months of the year in class, see if you can write them out in the correct order and practise spelling them.  Remember they all start with a capital letter.  A family member can help you with the spelling.  Here is a short video clip you can click on to help you practise them.

Stem – Our Stem Challenge for this week is we are creating a magical butterfly powered by static electricity.  You will need a piece of paper, card, tissue paper, glue, scissors and a balloon.  Don’t worry if you don’t have any of the materials, it is only a suggestion.  Perhaps you could just paint or draw a butterfly.  I have attached a link below to the Dynamic Earth website which shows you a short video clip with instructions on how to make the butterfly.

Art – Look at your Outdoor Art Grid that I put up last week and choose one of the activities to try outside.  I have copied the grid again below.

Hello everyone,

Hope everyone in your family are well and managing to put your time in.  It is important to spend time outside every day even if it is just playing in your garden.

I am just checking in with everyone and giving you some ideas for activities for your home learning for this week.  Remember just do what you can, these are only suggestions.

Take care everyone and stay safe.  I will be in touch again next Monday.

Literacy

P2 and P3 – Look at your Active Literacy sounds sheet and practise the new words for the ‘ou’ sound.  Practise writing the words for that sound in your laminated Boxes in your pack.  Challenge yourself to write some of your own words using the sound.  Write 3 sentences using one of your words in each sentence.

Bug Club – Reading

Log on to Bug Club and read 2 of your books.  Ask an adult to help you with the tricky words.  See how many ‘ou’ words you can find in your reading book and write them down.  Well done to everyone who has been reading their books.

Writing

This week for our writing we are going to be writing about a Missing/Lost Pet.  First you have to put the name of your pet and what type of pet it is then you have to write some sentences using capital letters and full stops about why your pet has become missing.  P3’s can try using different connectives in your writing and some adjectives.  When you have completed this you can draw a picture in the box of your pet.  This is an imaginative piece of writing therefore if you don’t have a pet this is your chance to make one up. You could use the link below or just write it on a piece of paper.

Numeracy

P3’s this week could practise division on Topmarks site Hit the Button, remember you have been dividing by 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 in class.  After this you an complete a colour division activity.  It is colour by 2, 5 and 10 division.  I have put the link below if you can’t access the link write out some division sums on paper dividing by 2, 5 and 10.

Colour by 2s, 5s and 10s division

P2’s this week can practise number bonds on Topmarks site Hit the Button then complete some of the Number Bonds Challenge Sheets.  If you click on the link below you will be able to print them.  If you don’t have a printer don’t worry you can practise writing number bonds to 20 on paper.

P2 and P3 – Continue logging on to Sum Dog and playing games.

P2 and P3 – We are going to be revisiting symmetry this week.  A nice activity for you is ‘Draw the Other Half Symmetry’.  Here are some examples for what you can do.  After you have drawn it you can colour it in.

click this link to look at the other half symmetry

Stem – Your Stem activity for this week is How to Make a Bird Feeder from a plastic bottle.  This is a nice activity to make with an adult because they will need to help you with the scissors part.  When you have made it you can hang it in your garden and watch all the different birds come to enjoy the food.  I have copied the link below for the Natural History Museum which shows a short video clip on how to make it.

Art – I have copied an Outdoor Art Grid for you to choose and try some of the activities if you want outside.  This could be done over a few weeks.Outdoor Art Grid
