SLC 2

SLC2 Term 4 Information Page

Science

This term in Science our focus will be living and non-living things. Learners will have the opportunity to sort and classify pictures according to set criteria and discuss their choices. We will explore simple food chains in different contexts, for example under the sea / in the garden, and discuss how all animals depend on each other. We will look at the vocabulary involved with food chains such as predator and prey. We will be able to identify herbivores and carnivores and explain the difference. We will use the outdoors to investigate living things closely.

Literacy & English

Using the context of ‘living things’ we will explore a variety of ways to display information. We will use the internet and reference books to collect facts, creating notes to help us remember. Learners will then use notes to create new texts such as leaflets, posters, powerpoints and fact files.

Mathematics

Using the butterfly as an example, we will identify a simple line of symmetry. We will then look at shapes to identify lines of symmetry. Children will have the opportunity to create shapes of their own and design butterfly patterns using their knowledge.

Health and Wellbeing

We will be learning about how living things grow, develop and are nurtured. We will discuss similarities and differences between us but understand that we are all unique.  Children will raise their awareness of their growing bodies and learn the correct names for its different parts. Pupils will learn about developing respect for our bodies and what behaviour is right and wrong. Learners will be able to identify who they should talk to if they are worried about this.
