Primary 3/4 Home Learning – Week Beginning Mon 15 June

Hello Primary 3/4, I hope you and your families are all well. Please look through this week’s tasks below with your grown up. Just do your best, that’s all I look for.

Literacy and English

1) This weeks phonic sound is “oo” and your words to practice reading and spelling are: zoo, mood, fool, spoon, look, stool and cook.  If you want to challenge yourself further, try to think of 5 different oo words. This week, please practice by writing each word out in a list then using Look, Cover, Write, Check to write each word out 3 times again. Do you think you could write the words out in alphabetical order too?

2) Aim to spend around 20-25 minutes on Bug Club. You could split this into 2 shorter sessions of 10 minutes if you wish. I have made sure that you all have books allocated. Remember to check for any teacher feedback too.
3) Write a set of instructions/recipe. I love food, cooking and baking! This week I would like you to ask your grown up if you can help them to prepare/cook either lunch/dinner/dessert one day. Then, I would like you to write out the recipe so that someone else can follow it. Remember to include your ingredients list, equipment list, time connectives (first, then, next etc) and write each instruction in a logical order.

Numeracy & Maths
4) Go on sumdog and complete the challenge questions focused on reading clocks. When you log in and go to play a game, the clock questions will come up first. Last week’s questions on place value are still there if you have not completed them yet.
5) Use the missing piece calculations below to practice subtraction. There is an example and a number line to help you. It may also help to think of each question as a word problem. For example, if I go to a shop a spend £4 and now I have £8 left, how much must I have had to start with?

6) Complete the challenges below. There are 2 different challenges to try. The pictures and the information will help you to find the answers.

All My Other Learning
7) Create a family minibeast quiz! Why don’t you create a quiz all about minibeasts to challenge the members of the family. You could try making it a “Who Am I?” quiz. For example, I have symmetrical wings. Who am I? (Butterfly).
Here is an online quiz you can try too: https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/t-t-10433-minibeast-quiz-powerpoint
8) Complete the minibeast activities on this site. If you scroll down a little, you will see there is a starter activity, main session part 1, main session part 2 and a plenary. Or, you can download the lesson pack. There are lots of really fun and different activities here that I am sure you will enjoy. http://resources.hwb.wales.gov.uk/VTC/minbeasts/eng/Introduction/default.htm
9) Create a fitness circuit for you and your family. There are some ideas below that you can aim to include in your circuit.

10) Mrs Hill has prepared some tasks for you too: https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/ea/mrshmusic/2020/06/11/p3-4-music-activities-week-beginning-15th-june/

Primary 3/4 Home Learning – Week Beginning 8th June

Hello Primary 3/4, I hope you and your families are safe, well and happy. Please find below this week’s tasks for you to try and work on. Please have a look through and  try your best. Do what you can, when you can 😊

Literacy and English
1) This weeks phonic sound is “ee” and your words to practice reading and spelling are: see, green, three, sleep, feel, need and deep.   If you want to challenge yourself further, try to think of 5 different ee words. This week, lets try to link spelling and writing by writing our spelling words into a short story. Underline your spelling words if you can and remember, if you include adjectives, underline them in blue too!

2) Aim to spend around 20-25 minutes on Bug Club. You could split this into 2 shorter sessions of 10 minutes if you wish. I have made sure that you all have books allocated. Remember to check for any teacher feedback too.
3) Design and create a card to give someone a message and show them that you care. Think about who you are going to give your card to – will it be somebody in your house or somebody that you miss? Perhaps you could post it or pop it in their door when you are out for a walk with your family. What design do you think the person would like for the front cover? (in class we sometimes look on google image for design ideas) What message will go on the inside? Remember the format for writing your message.

Numeracy & Maths
4) Go on sumdog and complete the challenge questions focused on place value. When you log in and go to play a game, the place value questions will come up first. Last week’s questions on division are still there if you have not completed them yet.
5) Use the function machines below to practice addition. There are 2 different sheets so that you may choose the one you think is best for you. You may write these out as addition calculations in your home learning jotter eg 5+4=9 or 52+12=65

6) Complete the challenge below. Just as we practice in class, there is always more than 1 way to solve a challenge. We like to explore the different ways a challenge can be solved eg a calculation, drawing a picture, an empty number line, acting it out. Talk to your adult about how you solved it. Can you find 2 different ways to show how you may solve the problem?

All My Other Learning
7) Paint your own minibeast rocks! Next time you are walking outdoors or playing out, why don’t you see if you can find some suitable sized rocks to paint and design into different minibeasts? You hide these in your garden/outdoor space for your family to find! Here are some ideas to get you started.

8) Exercise and movement is so important for our health and wellbeing. Can you create an exercise routine for you and your family? You could use your names to give you ideas too.

9) Mrs Hill has prepared some tasks for you too:

Primary 3/4 Home Learning – Week Beginning Mon 1 June

Hello Primary 3/4, I hope you and your families are all keeping safe and well and making the most of this glorious sunshine we’ve been having! It seems so long since I last saw you all, I really do miss you. Please find below this week’s tasks for you to try and work on. Please just do your best, that is all I can ask.

Literacy and English
1) This weeks phonic sound is “ph” and your words to practice reading and spelling are: Phil, phone, phoneme, elephant, alphabet, photograph and dolphin. If you want to challenge yourself further, try to think of 5 different ph words. Some of these words are quite tricky to spell so it may help you to practice by using the pyramid spelling technique.

2) Aim to spend around 20-25 minutes on Bug Club. You could split this into 2 shorter sessions of 10 minutes if you wish. I have made sure that you all have books allocated. Remember to check for any teacher feedback too.
3) Watch the video below about a minibeast adventure all about ants! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXUCUvcscXs After watching the video, aim to come up with 5 questions linked to the video. Your adult or I should be able to find the answer by watching and listening to the video. For example: Ants live in groups together. What is this called? (a colony). You may write your questions in your home learning jotter. Remember to put a question mark at the end of each question.

Numeracy & Maths
4) Go on sumdog and complete the challenge questions focused on division. When you log in and go to play a game, the division questions will come up first. Last week’s questions on using a calendar are still there if you have not completed them yet.
5) Practice missing piece addition calculations. Use the calculations below to find the missing piece in each calculation. You may choose to write these down in your home learning jotter. A number line to 20 may help you if you find it a little tricky.

Primary 3/4 Home Learning – Week Beginning 25th May

Hello Primary 3/4, I hope you and your families are all okay and enjoyed the long weekend. I really miss seeing you all each day at school. Please find below this week’s tasks for you to try and work on. This would have been a “3 day week” if you were in school so just do what you can and try your best.

Literacy and English
1) This weeks phonic sound is “wh” and your words to practice reading and spelling are: what, wheel, whisk, when, why, whisper and whiskers. If you want to challenge yourself further, try to think of 5 different wh words. This week, please choose one of the spelling activities below to practice your spelling.

2) Aim to spend around 20-25 minutes on Bug Club. You could split this into 2 shorter sessions of 10 minutes if you wish. I have made sure that you all have books allocated. Remember to check for any teacher feedback too.
3) Continue to work on your minibeast research task from last week. Remember, you are to decide which minibeast you find out about and how you present your findings. Aim to include: A title, a picture/diagram, at least 5 facts about the minibeast.

Here is a reminder of last week’s video to help you:

Numeracy & Maths
4) Go on sumdog and complete the challenge questions focused on using a calendar. When you log in and go to play a game, the calendar questions will come up first. Last week’s questions on number words are still there if you have not completed them yet.
5) Practice calculations online using the mental maths train game. Please use the link below to practice different calculations. The good thing about this game is that you can choose to focus on addition, subtraction, multiplication or division. Once you’ve chosen, you can then choose which skill to work on.
https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/mental-maths-train

6) Practice partitioning 3 digit numbers. Think about how these numbers are made – of hundreds, tens and units. For example 482 = 400 + 80 + 2 or 738 = 700 + 30 + 8.
Use the sheet below to help you. You may write your answers into your home learning jotter.

If you feel ready for a challenge, try the sheet below. This time you have to think of different ways of partitioning the same 3 digit number.

All My Other Learning
7) Minibeast Art – create a piece of art related to our learning on minibeasts. For example, this could be a drawing, a painting, a model, a mask, a collage or any other ideas you have. Here are some ideas to help you get thinking!

8) STEM Challenges – take a look at the STEM challenges below and have a go at any that particularly interest you and your family.

Primary 3/4 Home Learning – Week Beginning 18th May

Hello Primary 3/4, I hope that you are all safe and well. Below are these week’s home learning tasks for you to try and work on. Remember, just do your best, that is all we ask.

1) This weeks phonic sound is “ng” and your words to practice reading and spelling are: strong, ring, thing, string, bang, bring and sting. If you want to challenge yourself further, try to think of 5 different ng words. This week, why don’t you try writing the words into 3 different silly sentences? See if you can include all of the spelling words. Have fun making the sentences silly! Remember your red home learning jotter can be used for this too.
2) Aim to spend around 20-25 minutes on Bug Club. You could split this into 2 shorter sessions of 10 minutes if you wish. I have made sure that you all have books allocated. Remember to check for any teacher feedback too.
3) Research and find out about a minibeast of your choice and present your findings. Think about how you are going to present your findings. Perhaps you will create a poster? A fact file? A word document? A powerpoint? Aim to include: A title, a picture/diagram, at least 5 facts about the minibeast. This task will be continued into next week too to give you time to focus on your research and present your findings.

Here is a useful video to help you to get started:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z6882hv/articles/z9fkwmn

Numeracy & Maths
4) Go on sumdog and complete the challenge questions focused on number words. When you log in and go to play a game, the number words questions will come up first. Last week’s questions on 2x, 5x and 10x are still there if you have not completed them yet.
5) Practice multiplication using the questions below. It may help if you write down the calculation and the answer in your home learning jotter. Think about strategies you can use to help you if you find it tricky – counting up in multiples, drawing a picture or acting it out may help you.

6) Practice fact families using the numbers below. Remember, these are the 4 calculations (2 additions and 2 subtractions) that you can make using only 3 numbers. Why don’t you challenge yourself and make up one of your own for your adult to do?

All My Other Learning
7) Challenge – to design/create a Bug Hotel! If you don’t have access to an outdoor space/garden, you could draw a picture of what your Bug Hotel would look like. If you do have an outdoor space/garden think about ways you could create a Bug Hotel. For example, you could:
a. If you have some bricks, wooden boxes or pallets why not build a multi-storey Minibeast Mansion?! You could divide it into sections and stuff each part with different natural materials such as dry leaves, twigs, hollow stems, dead grass, pine cones and bits of bark.
b. You could make a Log Pile Lodge! To make a log pile, simply collect small logs, large sticks and pieces of rotting wood. Pile them up in a damp, shady area of your garden, then stuff some dead leaves in the nooks and crannies to make it cosy.
c. Or perhaps a Pine Cone Palace? Gather some pine cones and bundle them together closely so the scales interlock a bit. Stuff some dried leaves in the gaps. Place the pine cones in a quiet corner of your garden shed or garage.
d. Maybe you could make a Twig Tower Block? Gather some sticks and find an undisturbed, sheltered spot outdoors. Pile them up and stuff the gaps with smaller twigs and dry leaves.
The video link and picture below show other ways you may want to try too: https://youtu.be/OexxoXo9uFk

8) Mrs Hill has prepared a virtual musical classroom for you too:
