Primary 3 – STEM Shoebox Challenge

Primary 3 have been working on a STEM shoebox challenge – to construct a moving model vehicle. The overall aim of the challenge is for the model to move as far as it can and as straight as it can down a ramp. We had to design, create, construct and make adaptions to our models.  This project has helped us to develop a wide range of skills and introduced us to the concept of engineering.  Here are some pictures to show us in action!

Primary 3 – Science Project

Primary 3 recently had a 2 week home/school science project.  Their challenge was to find out about an aspect of Earth and Beyond that most interested them and to prepare a presentation to teach others in the class about it.  We had a wonderful range of models, posters, books, pictures and even a  constellation word search for the class to complete!  A HUGE thank you to all the adults who supported the children to do this.

SLC3 trip to the Cocoa Bean Factory

On Thursday 22nd November, SLC3 travelled up to Glasgow to visit the Cocoa Bean Factory as part of their topic on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

The pupils had a brilliant time and were able to make lots of different types of chocolate to take home.  They learned how to make chocolate in different shaped moulds, decorated chocolate bars and made marshmallow men!

Later, the pupils learned about where chocolate comes from and got to touch and grind real cocoa beans.
