Primary 1

Primary 1

Term 4

Literacy

This term Primary 1 are continuing to practice their reading skills using Bug Club. The children are all trying their best, practising reading online and using the physical books in class. At the moment the children are learning to use reading strategies to support their understanding of what they are reading e.g. picture clues etc.

In writing this term, the children will be learning how to write a set of instructions and will further develop their ability to write more independently. We have completed the Jolly Phonics programme, and are spending time using our knowledge of newly learned sounds in independent reading and writing activities.

Numeracy

In Numeracy we are learning to read 2 and 3 digit numbers. They are learning to understand the value of these numbers and are learning to count to 100 in 1’s, 10’s and 5’s. The children are learning to add numbers using a number line and 100 number square.

This term we will be learning to recognise 2D shapes and 3D objects in the environment. They will learn different properties of shapes and will be encouraged to make comparisons. Primary 1 will also be learning to identify different coins and learn to make different combinations.

IDL

This term our class topic is ‘Under The Sea’. The children will learn about the main differences between living and non-living things. This topic will inform a number of our Literacy reading and writing activities including write a message in a bottle, diary of a diver etc.

In the second half of Term 4, our topic will then be ‘Life of a Farmer’. The children will learn about the different jobs a farmer has and what his work involves.
