As part of the Scottish Government’s Legacy Gift initiative, Education Scotland was allocated 1000 Games tickets to distribute to children and young people who had engaged with the Game On Scotland programme, as part of the Commonwealth Games.
Schools were invited to apply for tickets by completing a survey about activities held in conjunction with the Game On website and Commonwealth Games, to be put in the ballot for a chance to win 10 tickets for sporting Games tickets.

Playground Art At St. Mun’s
P.6. pupils have been using their art creativity skills to enhance the school fencing with old inner tubes woven into the mesh to make fun images. Bicycle inner tubes are a waste product which can be difficult to dispose of, so recycling is a great solution.
The pupils have also been working in groups across the school and have lots of ideas about what to do next. So watch this space for next session! They are ‘tyred’ out after all this effort and are all looking forward to a great break!
St. Mun’s Pupils Interview Queen’s Baton Bearers
With the recent announcement of the local Queen’s Baton Bearers for the final leg of its journey in Argyll, the Primary 7’s at St. Mun’s Primary School decided to invite some of them along to share their stories. Gillian Purdie and Pev McChlerey were the first to be put through their paces as the children conducted a question and answer session, which they filmed and later edited. St. Mun’s Pupils Awarded Blue Peter Green Badge
The Rolls Royce Science Project, ‘If You Go Down In The Woods Today’, has definitely inspired a number of children in the school. None more so than 3 Primary 7s, Leonie Cuddahy, Ewan McIntosh and Scott Stewart, who decided to write to Blue Peter and tell them what they had been up to over the course of the last year.
First Communion Celebration at St. Mun’s
The sun shone on Saturday, 31st May, as 7 children from Primary 4 made their First Holy Communion.
The children, under the watchful eye of their teacher Miss L. O’Kane, delivered a beautiful, well prepared Mass to a packed church, full of friends, family, parishioners and staff and children from the School and sang beautifully as they invited everyone to, ‘Come And Join The Celebration’.

Shared Learning Training
This week Dunoon Primary and the P6 pupils of St Muns Primary have been busy working together in a Shared Learning Initiative. This was led by 5 pupils from our Sal Team and assisted by Mr Gary Clark, Mrs Mary Peek, and Mr Steven Simpson (DGS Student). The pupils from St Muns were very enthusiastic and keen to learn all the new technology skills that were on offer.
St. Mun’s Sport Their Trainers for Glasgow 2014
With the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games less than 6 months away, the children and staff at St. Mun’s joined in the warm up for Scotland’s biggest-ever festival of sport and culture, by wearing their trainers to school to celebrate Commonwealth Day. Sport Your Trainers was a great opportunity to bring the Commonwealth Games to life in the school, allowing pupils and teachers to show their support in a fun and easy way, ahead of their IDL project on the Commonwealth, which will begin after the Easter Holidays. Shake up your Wake up!
Primary 5/4 at St Mun’s Primary School helped the whole school to ‘Shake Up Their Wake Up’ by taking part in The Big Farmhouse Breakfast week from 27th to 31st of January.
Pupils developed their organisational and communication skills by creating menus for each class; cooking different healthy breakfast options; carrying out surveys and devising a breakfast race to help everyone stay fit and healthy!
St. Mun’s On Their Bikes
A group of Primary 7 children at St. Mun’s were recently presented with their well-earned i-cycle certificates at a whole school assembly.
The children who had undergone their training in Term 1, had to demonstrate their ability to ride safely on the road (displaying knowledge of the Highway Code), cycle maintenance and road user awareness, as well as passing a written multiple choice test. Well done everyone.
St. Mun’s Launch New Whole School IDL
Tuesday 7th January saw the official launch of their new whole school IDL on Scotland. Planning for the project involved staff, pupils, parents and carers and the parish of Our Lady and St. Mun’s who were all asked to put their heads together to help plan and share skills, which would ensure the children would get the most out of their learning. Nativity Hoe Down at St. Mun’s
Wednesday and Thursday of last week saw the children of St. Mun’s Primary School perform their annual Christmas whole school show to two full houses and their new Acting Head Teacher Mrs. L. Fisher.
The School’s choir took to the stage first with a carol concert, which included festive readings and monologues as well as soloists and festive favourites, which had the audiences joining in.

St. Mun’s Choir Entertain Residents At Ardenlee
It’s always good to give back to the community and when the children of St. Mun’s Choir were asked to entertain the residents at Ardenlee Care Home in Dunoon, they jumped at the chance to do just that.
Resplendent in their uniform and festive Santa hats the children sang a selection of their favourite carols for residents, staff and visitors who clapped along and joined in with their own personal favourites.

Year of Faith Mass
Friday 1 November 2013 will go down in the history of St Joseph’s Primary School as a monumental day as The Most Reverend Philip Tartaglia, Archbishop of Glasgow visited the school to say a special Mass. Archbishop Tartaglia was there not only to celebrate All Saints Day but also as a culmination of the school’s Year of Faith activities.
Halloween ‘Havoc’ At St. Mun’s
In a break from the traditional Halloween Disco, the children of St. Mun’s Primary were treated to a whole day of Halloween activities, fun and games.
The morning saw the children take part in a carousel of activities including arts and crafts, biscuit decorating , scary stories, sensory ‘feely’ basins filled with lots of unthinkable things and fancy dress parades, to name just a few. While the afternoon was full of dancing, dooking for apples, stringy donuts and party games.

Denominational Schools Working In Partnership
This year was the Year of Faith in the Catholic church where many opportunities were created to celebrate our faith worldwide. The four denominational schools in Argyll and Bute of St. Andrew’s Rothesay, St Columba’s, Oban, St. Mun’s Dunoon and St. Joseph’s Helensburgh collaborated on a project to create the Argyll and Bute children’s year of faith prayer as follows:

Dunoon Primary School Rugby Winners
The Primary 6’s in Dunoon, Sandbank, Kirn and St Mun’s schools have been enjoying a six week block of coaching to develop their skills in Non Contact Rugby. Our phenomenal coach was Brendan from Inverclyde. Each Tuesday, the schools enjoyed a 45 minute session where we learned the skills and rules required to play a match. To celebrate the end of our fantastic training sessions with Brendan McGroaty, Lindsay Mitchell of Active Schools organised a Rugby Festival at Dunoon Grammar School on Monday 10th June.

Victoria Postcard Project
This project is part of the Rothesay Town Heritage Initiative, celebrating Rothesay’s Victorian past. Argyll and Bute Primary children from Kilmodan, St Mun’s, Toward, North Bute and St Andrew’s have already been participating during May. This has involved interdisciplinary activities such as using traditional, Victorian style dip pens and ink, drawing and writing postcards, and, some ‘pop up history’ from a Victorian visitor from Rothesay in the year 1887.
St Mun’s Primary 7 visit Waterloo Road
Alarm clocks were set for an early rise on Wednesday the 7th of November when Primary 7 at St. Mun’s went to visit the set of Waterloo Road. This modern day school-based drama is set in the old Greenock Academy. Dream Catchers at St. Mun’s
Celebrating 30 years of the BFG
With lots of celebrations going to celebrate the BFG’s 30th Birthday, the Primary 7 pupils at St. Mun’s decided to investigate some really ‘Big Dreamers’ who had their dreams come true. They were set the task of working collaboratively in small groups to produce a fact profile for a number of famous people including Thomas Edison, Galileo, Amelia Earhart and Marie Curie to name just a few. The children then had to present their findings to their peers. Amazingly, some of them had never heard of these ‘Dreamers’ and admitted they were much more knowledgeable after everyone had presented their findings.
Later the children wrote about their own dreams and stored them in jars just like The BFG.
