Pupils at Dunoon Grammar School are putting the final touches to what will be a fun and exciting night on Saturday 22nd November at their race night taking place in Cowal Golf Club.
There are many opportunities for success on the night with prizes to be won on the races, raffle and other competitions that will be available on the night. Entry is free and DGS would like to extend the invite to everyone in the whole community.
The event will help to raise funds for the Gaelic trip to Canada in March 2015.

Hostel’s Got Talent 2013
Dunoon School Hostel hosted a 2013 ‘Battle of the Bands’ Talent Show Night on Wednesday 27th November. Presenters Struan & Ross who proved an Ant & Dec style type of presenting with confident very funny humour all the way through the show. Americans in Dunoon Report
On the 15th of August 2013 a lady called Sue Morrison came from Strathclyde University to talk to us about how to properly do an interview.
On the white board she let us listen to bad interviews and what we should not do during an interview.
I found it very interesting and useful advice.

Dunoon Primary at the SLF!
Dunoon Primary School has been selected to attend the Scottish Learning Festival at the SECC in Glasgow.
Our fantastic P7 group pictured here are looking forward to the challenge to represent our school at this event.
Katie, Reece, Deanne, Aiden, Andrew, Brandon, Kyle and Matthew are super excited and cant wait to get started.
Dunoon Primary School Rugby Winners
The Primary 6’s in Dunoon, Sandbank, Kirn and St Mun’s schools have been enjoying a six week block of coaching to develop their skills in Non Contact Rugby. Our phenomenal coach was Brendan from Inverclyde. Each Tuesday, the schools enjoyed a 45 minute session where we learned the skills and rules required to play a match. To celebrate the end of our fantastic training sessions with Brendan McGroaty, Lindsay Mitchell of Active Schools organised a Rugby Festival at Dunoon Grammar School on Monday 10th June.

Dunoon Primary Sports Day 2013
Dunoon Primary School held its annual Sports Day today (Wednesday 19th June 2013). The weather was very bright and sunny and the children were all very excited! A wide range of sporting activities with something to suit all ages and abilities ranging from the good old favourite, potato and spoon to the more modern rugby challenge. There was a surprise visitor in the shape of the ‘The Morton Mascot’ there to cheer everyone on! A super afternoon was had by all!
Bee Day at Dunoon Primary School
Primary 5 arranged a School “Bee Day” to raise awareness of the need to support the bee population and to raise funds to plant bee friendly flowers and provide some seeds for each pupil in the school to plant in their garden. It was a great day with everyone dressing in yellow and black, a bee outfit or bright flower colours. Pupils sold homemade baking, badges, bookmarks and enjoyed singing bee songs and presenting powerpoints to the classes throughout the day. Continue reading Bee Day at Dunoon Primary School
‘Expert Tuition from Dunoon Grammar Schools Pupils’
Dunoon Primary School were assisted by 4 DGS pupils and Mr Shaw to get the Skillsbook programme up and running. The four students Steven, Keith, Heather and Ben worked really diligently and enthusiastically with our P6 and P5 pupils. The children loved learning this new exciting project and can’t wait to do more with the programme. The comments from our pupils were ‘Terrific, Cool, Can’t wait to get started!’

‘Message in a Bottle’
Primary 4 at Dunoon Primary could not believe their eyes when Jake a member of their class came into school carrying a bottle with a message inside, because they had been discussing messages in bottles in class. At first they thought Jake was playing a joke. The bottle had to be cut open to get the message out and to everyones surprise it really was a message in a bottle! Dunoon Primary School Super Samba
Dunoon Primary were treated to the super sound of Samba Drumming at assembly on Wednesday morning. The hall was filled with lots of excited children from the Pre Fives up to Primary 7s and they enjoyed a marvellous display. The performance was by a group of enthusiastic musicians who have been attending an after-school Samba club where they have been not only developing their Samba skills but also having a lot of fun!
Mr & Mrs (Hostel Style!)
Dunoon School Hostel held a Mr & Mrs on Thursday 18th April. Steven Simpson Top Presenter and Co Presenter Mary Peek started the 6 couples off with their own intro music and videos. The multi-choice questions followed with a set of paddle questions. The kitchen staff prepared coconut hearts and delicious goodies with the Mr & Mrs logo on them and the hall was skillfully adorned with an array of heart decorations by our houseparents.

“Outstanding! Superb! Moving!” These were some of the comments made to describe the Daffodil Tea performance by Dunoon Primary School Choir on Tuesday 26th March. The choir performed their programme in the afternoon for invited guests within the community and also in the evening for parents, relatives and friends. The hall was decorated with artwork produced by all the classes and refreshments were provided by the PTA.

Easter Bonnet Parade
There may have been wintry temperatures and snow showers outside on Wednesday March 27th, but inside Dunoon Primary there was most definitely a celebration of Spring and Creativity taking place, as children from the Nursery and P1 – 3 arrived in the hall, wearing a fantastic array of colourful Easter bonnets. The pupils of P4 – 7 and staff showed their appreciation, as the younger children took to the stage to model their amazing creations. A wonderful effort! Well done!

Dunoon Volleyball Tournament
The Annual Interschool Volleyball Tournament took place today at Dunoon Grammar School. Dunoon had 6 teams. Each one played very well with 2 teams getting to the semi final and the final. Lauren, Luke and Jack went through to the final against a strong Kirn Team C who won the match. A great day was had by all the Primary 7’s and there were lots of happy smiling faces to be seen around the hall.

Red Nose Day at Dunoon Primary
Dunoon Primary raised funds for Red Nose Day today. They sold red noses for £1-00 and the whole school wore the colour red or had a silly hair style! Remarkably some of the children’s hair styles were expertly sprayed with glitter and crimped! Each class was a sea of red ! Even the Janitor Mr Callum McIntyre (Who retires on Thursday 21st) joined in the fun!! The cake decorating after school class iced red nose biscuits and cakes to perfection!
Dunoon Primary Choir perform ‘Musicals’
On Wednesday 6th March Dunoon Primary School Choir spent a wonderful afternoon with the Senior Citizens at Alfred Street Hall. The choir had been busy practising and preparing with Mrs Hamlet, Mrs Peek and Mrs Tulloch for this event. The event included some moving solos, and duets, some of the audience had a wee tear in their eye and enjoyed joining in with the familiar songs.
Pyjama Day & Bake Sale at Dunoon Primary
At Dunoon Primary School the P7’s had a Bake Sale & Pyjama Day to raise money to go to the Benmore Residential Weekend fund. The fantastic sum of £337-11 was raised and the children worked so hard both baking at home the night before and selling and wrapping up the delicious baking.
