Today (Friday 2nd June 2017) was a glorious sunny day for all local primary schools attending the annual Police Sports. Dunoon Primary had 8 teams from P4-P7 taking part in the football. The athletics was on first with 50m & 100m races for P4-P7 and relay races followed. The Tug of war was lots of fun for all pupils! Medals will be presented on Monday in school.
Pupils at Rhu Primary School are glowing with health after taking part in their first whole school health week.
The children had an active, fun-packed week filled with sport, fitness activities and learning about the importance of a healthy lifestyle. A wide range of visiting health professionals and sports people helped to ensure pupils at every stage in the school had a great experience.
Three accomplishments over the last few weeks for Barcaldine Primary School
It has been a hat-trick for Barcaldine Primary School children in the Big Pedal race. We came joint first in the UK in the Small Primary Classes 5-day Challenge category, for the third consecutive year. We have taken part in the Big Pedal’s virtual cycle around Britain for several years now and the children are always very enthusiastic about using the Sustran’s cycle path to cycle to school.

We are very excited to start our yoga club at school after 3 teachers and 1 parent attended recent training, provided by Active Schools. We are even more excited to have our own yoga mats for the club – kindly donated by Kayci’s mum, Rebecca. Rebecca organised a raffle through her business, KMR Candles, and all proceeds went towards the purchase of the mats. Thank you Rebecca! Our yoga club will start on Thursday 23rd May after school and run for 6 weeks.
On Friday 17th March, Rhunahaorine and Gigha pupils joined pupils at Glenbarr Primary School for a day of BMT (Better Movers and Thinkers). They were joined by Rona Young who led the day. In the morning P1-3 pupils got the chance to have some Active Start together while the p4-7 took part in some BMT activities in the classroom. They tried a variety of activities – Body Lift, Body Parts, Finger Taps, Clap Patterns and Fours on the Spot.
On Friday 10th March Strachur Primary participated in a football tournament organised by Active Schools, at Strachurmore Pitch. Primary 4 and 5 pupils took part from 10am until 2pm and played really well. All the small schools from the Cowal area were invited and Strachur came second, Tighnabruaich Primary won the tournament.
Lismore’s Fairtrade Bake Off
On Thursday 2nd March 2017, Achaleven Primary School joined Lismore Primary School for a Fairtrade Challenge Day. Both Achaleven and Lismore are already Fairtrade Schools, so this year they decided to get together for a Fairtade Fortnight event.
Achaleven pupils travelled by ferry from Oban to Achnacroish where they were greeted by Lismore P7s who accompanied them to the school.

With some close matches against tough opposition, Kirn A Team won through, with the B team on-the-ball to take second place and the C Team still in the running in overall 5th.

The sportscotland Gold School Sport Award was presented to staff and pupils last month, by Lorna Jackson (sportscotland Partnership Manager).
Dalintober PS & ELC were delighted to welcome Dr Andrew Dalziell as part of the school’s commitment to developing the acclaimed ‘Better Movers & Thinkers’ programme across the whole school and ELC. Dr Dalziell is highly regarded for his work and research in this area and worked with the staff and pupils on the theory and practice of BMT and the marriage of healthy, active bodies and healthy, active minds – we look forward to welcoming him back in March.
Some of the P7 and P6 pupils in St Columba’s Primary School, Oban, have managed to achieve the Rookie Lifeguard Bronze Award during their swimming lessons in school. With the help of fundraising by the Parent Council, all pupils from P3-P7 have an eight week swimming block every year to ensure that as many pupils as possible are competent swimmers by the time they leave primary school. Of course, none of this would be possible without the help and support of Atlantis Leisure.
The P4-7s from Carradale Primary School have recently attended a 4 week golf session run by Dr Abernethy and Mrs Margaret Campbell. They were split into two groups, the ones that hadn’t played golf before and the ones that head. They had great fun playing on the field, chipping and putting.
P7 pupil, Keira Munro, proudly shows her shield. Keira and Toby won the O’Donnell Shield at the Pony Club Working Hunter Show for having the most points over all. Well done, Keira. You were up against older and more experienced competitors. Keira had previously managed to achieve a 2nd and two 3rds for show jumping at the Salen Show in August. We look forward to following your Pony Club career. Continue reading Salen Primary Star Jumper
Pupils and staff are delighted that the school has won this award from Sportscotland for a second time. The award is recognition of our school’s achievements in putting physical education and sport at the heart of the school. We are committed to ensuring that there are opportunities for every pupil to engage in physical education, school sport and ultimately go on to enjoy life long participation in sport and physical activity.
Ellen and Gemma MacRae of Salen Primary School raised £570 for Cancer Research UK by running the Inverness 10k. Well done girls! You ran an amazing distance and collected a phenomenal amount of money.
They are so keen on running and sports. They also achieved a 1st and 2nd place at the Tiree Fitness Kids Event.
