Rosneath Green Flag 2Rosneath Primary School pupils were so happy to “get their hands on” their very first Green Flag after an outstanding assessment report from Paula Love, Lead Assessor. They gathered together on a beautiful, sunny day (of which we don’t have that many!) out in the School grounds to show it off. We hope to have it flying high soon. As Julie Wilson , Education and Learning Manager (Keep Scotland Beautiful) said, “This is an outstanding achievement, congratulations to all.”

Luss – Grow to Sell

Luss PS Grow to SellThe children at Luss went along to Waitrose on Wednesday this week to sell the produce they have grown through the summer for the ”Grow to Sell” Project in conjunction with Waitrose. This was a feature of their work last year which resulted in a 6th Green Flag and a 4th Total Green Award.

JLB Green photoFollowing a recent intense assessment from Paula Love, an Eco Schools assessor John Logie Baird successfully secured our Green Flag. Our amazing Mrs McArthur, Primary 6 class teacher and our Eco group worked tirelessly to showcase all that John Logie Baird was doing to recycle, reuse, manage waste and pick up litter. Paula commented on what a warm welcome she received and paid tribute to our whole school’s inclusive approach…. And what’s more, our nine newly erected raised beds will help us to gain our next green flag in the near future.

Rosneath Primary School are ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTED to share their latest success with everybody. Today, Monday 15th June, will stick in our minds for a long time to come because today is the day we earned our very first Eco Green Flag.

Children and adults alike were soooooooooooooooo excited when Paula Love (Assessor) came to school at 10.30. Two hours later, we were all celebrating!

We are hoping to receive our Flag before the end of Term so photos will follow!

Respectme at Kilcreggan Primary School!

Kilcreggan gym 1Children at Kilcreggan Primary School have been working hard to respect each other. The Eco-committee presented a respectful assembly to encourage everyone to treat others as they like to be treated. They reminded us to say and do polite things and tell someone about our worries! They read ‘The Big Bag of Worries’, reminded everyone about the ‘Buddy Stop’ and encouraged everyone to try and earn a ‘Respectme’ badge.

Bowmore 4th Green FlagBowmore Primary have done it again! By hard work and dedication, we have earned our fourth Green Flag as an eco-school! Not only do we maintain our eco way of life by litter-picking, saving energy, composting peelings and running a healthy tuck, we have made time to improve our school grounds. Our raised beds and rockery are now well established and used to their full potential.

St Muns Eden 3After scooping the coveted Eden Award, at the Rolls Royce Science Awards, held at the Science Centre in London, last November, with their Biodiversity project entitled ‘If You Go Down In The Woods Today’, the children of Primary 7, along with their teacher, set about planning the 1,100 mile round trip visit to The Eden Project, St. Austell in Cornwall.

St Muns STEM 1The pupils of St. Mun’s Primary have just completed their designs ahead of the deadline for the Scottish Engineering Leaders Award for STEM 2014/15. The Awards challenged Primary and Secondary school pupils across Scotland to research and interview inspiring engineers, providing them with a fantastic opportunity to engage with real engineers who could convey the importance of STEM in their daily working lives.

We held our very own Book Week. This involved writing book reviews, class talks about our favourite books and dressing up as our favourite book characters. We also had parents come in to read to us. John McCallum from the Campbeltown Courier came to our school to talk about his job. We asked lots of questions and found out lots of information about being a journalist.

St Josephs PS Herm Park 1Representatives of the St Joseph’s Pupil Council and Eco Committee from P4, 5 & 6 went on a fact finding trip to the Victoria Halls last week.

Ambitious plans for the redevelopment of Hermitage Park were unveiled and the St Joseph’s pupils wanted to make sure that the interests of children just like them were heard.

Park Primary is awarded 6th Green Flag

Park PS earth hour forPark Primary, Oban has recently gained a 6th Green Flag award for it’s work over the last two years on the topics of litter, health and wellbeing and waste minimisation. The school was commended for integrating the Eco Schools programme thoroughly into the curriculum and calendar through events such as One Planet Picnic, Earth Hour and our Apple Days and Green Days. Regular beach cleans and promotion of Fairtrade were also mentioned as was our support of charities such as WWF, MCS and Send my Friend to School. The pupils were described as “truly responsible, global citizens” and we are very proud of this.

Dalintober PS Allotment wins ACHA ‘Garden In Boom 2014’ Competition

Dalintober Primary School pupils and staff were delighted to hear that they had been awarded first prize in Argyll Community Housing Association’s ‘Garden In Bloom 2014’ competition, for a second year running. Members of the Mid Argyll & Kintyre Area Committee scored allotments independently and Dalintober’s allotment was judged the best. Members of the Eco-Group, staff and parent and partners have all helped to maintain the allotment, growing a wide range of fruit and vegetables which has been used in school meals and for ‘Green Days’. Dalintober PS would especially like to thank Chris Holden and Judy Martin for all their assistance.

St Andrew’s Primary School’s Third Green Flag!
St Andrew’s Eco Committee met with Paula Love, the Eco Schools Assessor, and informed her of all the hard work put in by the pupils, staff, parents and community members to maintain the Eco School status. After an initial meeting to discuss what has been happening in our school, from weekly litter picking duties to organised days like UNICEF’s Day of Change, the Eco Committee sang our Eco Code; complete with the newly choreographed actions.

Port Ellen gains 5th green flag!

On Monday 24th November Paula Love from Eco Schools Scotland came to our school. She came because she was chosen to assess our school for its next green flag. All of the Eco committee showed her round the school grounds and she said that our school is very tidy and eco friendly and she would like to come again. Barcaldine Pupils help fell the Oban Christmas Tree

Last week pupils from Barcaldine Primary School were in Sutherland’s Grove setting up their Sgoil na Coilltean (School in the Woods). While they were surveying the woodland with Rory MacLean (Forestry Commission Scotland) for trees that could be felled, they were invited to assist with the Health and Safety operations for the felling of the Oban Christmas tree with Rory and Argyll and Bute Council.

Third Green Flag for Dalintober PS

There was great news for Dalintober Primary School last week when an Eco-School Scotland assessor visited and, following thorough inspection, awarded the school our third Green Flag. Obtaining the flag would not have been possible without the commitment and enthusiasm of all our pupils, staff, parents and the many partner community organisations who all take great pride in our school and its locality. We are so pleased that this has been recognised by Eco-School Scotland and their efforts rewarded.
