Tobermory High School recently presented its third musical production with two sell-out performances in the Aros Hall Tobermory. Dazzle, told the story of Poppy Pringle and the Dazzle Bay Fun Palace and featured a cast of 30 pupils from P5-S5. The cast all gave confident performances and delivered the songs with gusto. A live band helped to bring the story to life, and was made up of local musicians as well as friends of director, social subjects teacher, Ryan Lowe. Candyfloss and sticks of rock were sold at the interval to keep the fairground theme running from beginning to end. A fantastic show!

Fairytale Celebration Event
The parents and class teachers of pupils who attend The Sunshine Room Nurture Group were invited to Parklands for a very special celebration event. The celebration event showcased a DVD of all the pupils hard work over the term on the topic of fairytales, the DVD showed the pupils planning of the topic, activities they took part in and their assessment of their own learning. Parents and class teachers said they enjoyed the event and loved seeing the pupils’ contributions.
P7/6 WW2 Drama Production & 1940’s Street Party
As a finale to their pupil led World War 2 Interdisciplinary Study, the pupils of P7/6 warmly invited parents & family members to their World War 2 Drama Adaptation of Carrie’s War on 15th of May 2014.
As a thank you to family members for allowing pupils to bring in fantastic artefacts & interesting resources from home eg vintage ration books & genuine war medals, the class also invited family and friends to join them for a splendid Street Party after the production. Scottish Disability Sports Athletics event at Grangemouth
On the 4th of June some of the learning centre pupils of Dunoon Grammar school went to Scottish Disability Sports Athletics event at Grangemouth. We won 4 medals, 3 bronze medals and 1 gold medal. After a long day running we were all really sleepy, some of us had a sleep on the bus! We met lots of other kids from different schools in Scotland.

PHENOMENAL CYCLISTS – P6 AT ROSNEATH
Today, P6 were absolutely delighted that ALL 11 cyclists passed their Cycling Proficiency Theory Test and ALL got an ‘A’ Pass in the practical.
Kay, Road Safety Officer, said she had never seen such phenomenal cycling!
Well done to you all!

P7 organise P1-3 “Fitness and Fun” Club at Dunoon Primary
As part of the whole school Commonwealth celebrations, Miss Johnston and P7 have been planning, organising and running a sports club for P1-3 pupils. Each week the younger children have had the opportunity to try out a different sport featuring at this year’s games, e.g. hockey, football, badminton, etc. Almost all P7 pupils have volunteered to help run the club showing themselves to be responsible and effective members of the school. They have also developed their coaching and mentoring skills.

Kirn Primary visit Medieval Stirling
Primaries 5, 6 and 7 spent the day at the medieval castle of Stirling to bring to life all their work on the Scottish Wars of Independence and Milestones in Scottish History.
Highlights of the trip were the Great Hall “where they dined and danced, and at night the servants slept there”. The Jester told a story about “changing mud into gold, and everyone was acting parts” and there were visits to the King’s Garden and the forest where the King would hunt.
Keills and Small Isles do Samba!
A clear blue sky, sunshine warming the air and a gentle breeze – the perfect conditions for an outdoor Samba Drumming Performance for the family and friends of Keills and Small Isles P.5-7 pupils. The rhythmic sound of surdo drums, agogo bells, tamborims and ganza shakers playing together was heard throughout the school grounds, probably most of Keills village and quite possibly Port Askaig!
Dervaig Primary School Summer Fair
The school held its annual summer fair on Sunday 8 June. The weather was good to us and stayed bright and sunny for the afternoon. The pupils, with the help of some parents, ran all the stalls. We also had a duck race in the River Bellart. This was a very successful afternoon and we raised the grand total £1200.
Scottish Kodu Kup Final
Pupils at Cardross Primary School were delighted to learn that 2 groups of budding computer programmers have been selected to attend the Scottish Kodu Kup final next week. The final 10 teams will meet at West College Scotland, Paisley Campus on Monday 16th July. The finalists will have the opportunity to work on their games before presenting their game and concept to the panel of judges.

The Rolls Royce Science Project, ‘If You Go Down In The Woods Today’, has definitely inspired a number of children in the school. None more so than 3 Primary 7s, Leonie Cuddahy, Ewan McIntosh and Scott Stewart, who decided to write to Blue Peter and tell them what they had been up to over the course of the last year.

‘Scent-Citizens’, a social enterprise business run by P4/5 in Port Ellen Primary School, has been presented with a Social Enterprise Academy Award by John Swinney, Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Employment and Sustainable Growth.
JLB Maths Challenge Awards!
Ben, Kelci and Rebecca, P7 pupils at John Logie Baird Primary recently collected their prize for the annual Schools Maths Challenge run by Strathclyde University. The pupils all received a Silver Certificate and mug for their high scores in the problem solving challenge at Strathclyde University. The event also had their brains working – the had many challenges to complete which were very thought provoking – even for the adults present!

: Aladdin! What a show at Kirn Primary
The combined P5,6 and P7 classes put on an outstanding show this week with some stellar performances from the hilarious Widow Twanky, the panto villain Abanazer, the love struck Aladdin and the lovely Princess Jasmine. A hugely professional, fun and uplifting performance, which as one audience member suggested, “was good enough for a Queen’s Hall production”.
Commonwealth Games on Lismore
The North Lorn Primary Schools – Lismore, Strath of Appin, Ardchattan, Barcaldine along with Achaleven and Kilchrenan from further afield, held their own Commonwealth Games on Lismore on Thursday 5th June. Calmac very kindly ran two special ferries to accommodate the 70 visiting children together with staff and parents. The Games began with an Opening Ceremony where each school representing a different Commonwealth country paraded with a flag and a banner before performing a dance or song from their chosen nation.

Rothesay Primary were delighted to be asked to send another 50 pieces of art for the Commonwealth Games Athlete’s Village. Initially, we sent 10, as the winners of an art competition, but Game On Scotland were so impressed with our entries that they asked for more – a lot more!

Cardross Primary had a visit from Hopscotch theatre company. They performed ‘The Commonhealth Games’, it was a super production enjoyed by everyone!
Christian Aid Netball/Football
Cardross Primary were the winners at the recent Christian Aid Netball Tournament organised by Mrs Clark from Garelochhead Primary. The standard of play was amazing with St Joseph’s, Rhu, Colgrain and Cardross in the semi-final stages. Cardross were given a tough match against Colgrain Primary in the final. It was a great event and many thanks to all of the players, coaches and volunteers at the event.
Cardross haven’t lifted the trophy since 2001 and we were delighted!
Strone Primary Clubs
Every Tuesday afternoon pupils from Strone Primary School are taking part in a choice of four activity clubs. This term we have on offer Golf at Strone Golf Club, Commonwealth Cookery, Outdoor Art, and Outdoor Activities at Hunter’s Quay Holiday Village. The picture shows the pupils at Hunter’s Quay Holiday Village all prepared for an afternoon of being Junior Explorers.

Whilst our P4-7’s were enjoying the sunshine at the Police Sports Day in Dunoon, our P1-3’s dined outside at lunchtime to make the most of the fantastic weather. A big thank-you to our kitchen staff Mrs Rodger and Miss Lees for setting up the tables and waitressing.
