Scabby Fruit Crumble!

Taynuilt Primary School among winning schools from across Scotland who prove they aren’t afraid of fighting against food waste. This Halloween Taynuilt Primary School were successful in a competition between Love Food Hate Waste Scottish Business in the Community and Good Family Food (Quality Meat Scotland) who teamed up to give schools across Scotland the chance to prove their mettle in a recipe competition called ‘Don’t be afraid of your leftovers.’

Furnace Pupil wins Crossreach Christmas card competition

On the afternoon of 23 October we celebrated the success of one of our pupils, Chloe Taylor (P6), in a national competition.  The competition, to design a Christmas card, was run by CrossReach, part of the Church of Scotland’s social care network. Chloe, along with her friends in our Arts and Crafts Club, designed a Christmas card back in January of this year.  Out of the many hundreds of entries her card, featuring an angel and the words “Jesus is a friend to all people” was selected as the best children’s entry.

P6 create WW1 Relics at Burgh Hall Competition!

Dunoon Primary School , P6 Mrs Simeone’s Class took part in an exciting competition about WW1. The whole of the class took part in the competition but there were 3 main winners myself (German Trench Dagger) Arron (Commemoration Poster) and Kerrin (WW1 Nurses Outfit).

Digital Leaders at Dunoon Primary showcase “Our Children Their Future App at SLF

The last two days have been so exciting for Dunoon Primary Digital Leaders. They attended the Scottish Learning Festival and were based at Argyll & Bute Councils Stand.
The children showcased their mobile app called ‘Our Children Their Future’ which provides information about the local authority Education Service Vision and Strategy. The app was created by Digital Leaders with support from Mr Gary Clark.

Outdoor Maths Learning

 

Week three of Outdoor Maths Learning at Minard School and the weather was good enough to get out and about for an introduction to geometry. Furnace and Minard boys practised the skills of teamwork, creativity and encouragement this week whilst constructing a 3D shape out of twigs- A good start to Maths Week

Tarbert Academy Pupil Success

Tarbert Academy S3 pupil, Cara MacTaggart, achieved success in the Inspire-Aspire competition organised by Character Scotland. A National Finalist, her inspirational piece has been published along with other winners’ work in the Inspiring Purpose 2017 Awards magazine. The aim of the programme is to give young people the opportunity to think about their values and character strengths whilst also reflecting on who or what inspires them and their aspirations and goals for their future.

 

Regional Art Competition Winner – Lochdonhead Primary

Alex Geddes of Lochdonhead Primary fought off stiff competition to win the regional stages of an art competition, run by Gas Distribution Network (GDN), to raise awareness of the dangers of carbon monoxide.

The primary seven pupil produced and performed a lyrical poem which saw her win £300 for the school and £150 for herself.

Isle of Gigha School wins My Favourite Pocket Garden Award at Gardening Scotland 2017!

Isle of Gigha School and Community are very proud to announce that Bailey Bannatyne’s Gigha Garden, inspired by our beautiful island has won the My Favourite Pocket Garden Award at Gardening Scotland 2017!

Visitors who voted convincingly for Bailey’s design were entertained and inspired by her creativity and attention to detail. They especially enjoyed how the garden encapsulated the children’s love for their island and its beautiful natural heritage.

Skills Week at Achaleven.

Achaleven’s Got Skills!
12th – 16th June was a very busy time at Achaleven Primary!

We packed in a lot in a short space of time starting with tag rugby with Allan and Ellie who put us through our paces, kept us active and we worked together well to achieve great results. We planned a trip to Glen Nant for the Wednesday so this involved creating a risk assessment.

DUNOON GRAMMAR NEEDS YOUR HELP!

A team of pupils from Dunoon Grammar School is calling for help from members of the public after being shortlisted for the People’s Choice Award at this year’s Apps for Good UK finals.

The youngsters beat of stiff competition from over 25,000 young people, from 1,250 establishments, to reach the final 10 with their innovative SafeStep idea. However, in order to win, the team needs members of the public to vote for them.

Healthy Living Project

It’s all swings and roundabouts in Primary 6 at Rhu as pupils have been designing their own Healthy Living Theme Park.
The project has been a homework topic this term and children have taken the theme of a healthy, balanced lifestyle and turned it into a business venture. They have each designed their own theme park, with the emphasis on being active and eating healthy food. So gone are the burgers and coke to be replaced by smoothie bars and fruit snack shops.

Kintyre Writers’ Circle Competition

Congratulations to children at Castlehill Primary School in P4, P5, P6 and P7 who were awarded prizes in the Kintyre Writers’ Circle Competition on Friday 12th May at Seafield Hotel. Well done to everyone who took part in this competition for all South Kintyre schools.

St Mun’s Guitar Project

The Primary 6/5 pupils from St Muns Primary in Dunoon, recently spent two days visiting the Technical Department in Dunoon Grammar School, making their own guitars. Having been given a basic specification for a guitar, the pupils came up with their own unique designs and with the help of Mr Mollins and some S3 pupils, who acted as team leaders, they constructed the guitar parts from wood and pieced them together.

Dream Dress Up Day

In the last week of term, the Colgrain Primary School Pupil Council organised a ‘dream job’ dress up day. All pupils from Pre-5 to P7 thought about what they would like to be when they grow up and came to school dressed in that role. This event coincided with the finale of our STEM term. Thanks to the generosity of our pupils, we raised £244.38. This money has been shared between Save the Children and the purchase of new playground equipment.

Rockfield Shares Learning in Music

Pupils in Rockfield Primary in Oban welcomed parents, carers and friends to school recently to share with them the learning they have been doing in music.

P4 and P5 pupils have been exploring the instrument families of the orchestra, with a particular focus on the piece ‘Peter and the Wolf’ by Prokofiev which uses recurring themes and specific instruments for each character.

BMT day at Glenbarr Primary School

On Friday 17th March, Rhunahaorine and Gigha pupils joined pupils at Glenbarr Primary School for a day of BMT (Better Movers and Thinkers). They were joined by Rona Young who led the day. In the morning P1-3 pupils got the chance to have some Active Start together while the p4-7 took part in some BMT activities in the classroom. They tried a variety of activities – Body Lift, Body Parts, Finger Taps, Clap Patterns and Fours on the Spot.

Title – Open Afternoon at Southend Primary

Pupils became teachers for the afternoon at Southend Primary. Parents, Guardians and members of the community had taster sessions on writing newspapers reports, creating Animations, making Power Points, designing Rennie McIntosh screen prints, experiencing the thinking behind BMT and having fun learning about the weather in French.
