Furnace Pupil wins Crossreach Christmas card competition

On the afternoon of 23 October we celebrated the success of one of our pupils, Chloe Taylor (P6), in a national competition.  The competition, to design a Christmas card, was run by CrossReach, part of the Church of Scotland’s social care network. Chloe, along with her friends in our Arts and Crafts Club, designed a Christmas card back in January of this year.  Out of the many hundreds of entries her card, featuring an angel and the words “Jesus is a friend to all people” was selected as the best children’s entry.

Dunoon Primary School , P6 Mrs Simeone’s Class took part in an exciting competition about WW1. The whole of the class took part in the competition but there were 3 main winners myself (German Trench Dagger) Arron (Commemoration Poster) and Kerrin (WW1 Nurses Outfit).

Ardencaple Active Schools Cup Win for Hermitage Primary Football Team – Sep 2017

On Friday the 29th of September, the Hermitage Primary Football team were invited to take part in the annual Adrencaple Active Schools Cup. Competing against 5 other schools in very poor weather conditions the team were fantastic! They scored 23 goals in total across all of their games and only conceded a single goal.

Drumlemble Primary School – Beach Clean Thursday 28th September 2017

On a blustery day in the middle of September, Primary 4 – 7 from Drumlemble Primary School headed down to Machrihanish beach, accompanied by Andrea McShannon from the GRAB trust, for a beach clean as part of the Beaches and Marine Litter project.

Rockfield Primary 7 pupils experience wonderful outdoor learning!

Primary 7 pupils from Rockfield Primary participated in a 5 day adventure to Ardentinny Outdoor Learning Centre, near Dunoon. The pupils were able to participate in a whole range of activities, such as canoeing, gorge walking and team building. They were split in to day time activity teams and then at night time, were able to share dormitories with their friends. They made their own beds, tidied the dorm and set up the dining hall for the next meal.

Maths Week Clan Challenges at Strath of Appin

As part of Maths Week pupils at Strath of Appin Primary worked together in their clans to solve a daily maths-themed challenge. The challenges were varied and drew on a range of mathematical skills as well as encouraging good communication skills and effective teamwork.

Maths Week Success at St Joseph’s

Two P7 pupils from St. Joseph’s took part in the West Dunbartonshire Maths Challenge on the Wednesday of Maths Week Scotland. Ten teams of eight children went head to head to solve Mathematics problems within a limited time frame. The last challenge of the morning was the ‘Hot Seat’ where one child from each team was the ‘runner’, responsible for running to an adult with the answer to their current question and collecting the next question until they had successfully answered 30 questions.

Over recent weeks children from Campbeltown Nursery Centre have been travelling by bus to visit Machrihanish Golf Club where they have enjoyed participating in golf lessons with Jennie Dunn, PGA of Germany Head Professional, who is based at the Club.

Making a difference for Mary’s Meals

Achaleven Primary opened up their doors to the community for an Autumn picnic on Wednesday 13th September to raise awareness and funds for Mary’s Meals. In 2015 the Global Goals for Sustainable Development campaign was launched with agreement from 193 countries to work towards an end to poverty, inequality and climate change by 2030.  The second goal of this campaign is zero hunger.  The children wanted to run an event to see what they could do to help.

Digital Leaders at Dunoon Primary showcase “Our Children Their Future App at SLF

The last two days have been so exciting for Dunoon Primary Digital Leaders. They attended the Scottish Learning Festival and were based at Argyll & Bute Councils Stand.
The children showcased their mobile app called ‘Our Children Their Future’ which provides information about the local authority Education Service Vision and Strategy. The app was created by Digital Leaders with support from Mr Gary Clark.

At Southend Primary we have been learning to improve our mental agility recall. This special week was a chance for children and teachers to showcase the creative and innovative ways of making maths count.
We used Numicon to help us learn our times tables and to create number bonds and stories.

Maths Week Challenge at Lochgoilhead

Lochgoilhead Primary School participated in Scotland’s Maths Week Challenge with some exciting enquiry based learning. As soon as the pupils arrived on Monday morning, they attended a specially arranged assembly where they were all invited to help solve a problem. The large grass area surrounding the school was too long and needed to be ready by Friday for a sports event. With the usual gardening maintenance team not able to visit the school until the following week, the children were put into mixed age groups to try and come up with possible solutions.

Rugby Session at Minard, Furnace and Achahoish!

Minard, Furnace and Achahoish schools joined together at Furnace Primary school for a fabulous rugby session led by Allan Wright. The weather was wonderful, the children were amazing and the midges were nowhere to be seen. A great afternoon of sport and socialising for the three schools.

Maths week Part two from Minard and Furnace Primaries

Thursday morning saw Minard and Furnace children practice their times tables in an active fashion then they took to the playground to see how many throws of the bean bag were needed to cover 100m. Lots of measuring and subtracting.

PORT CHARLOTTE PRIMARY AWARDED SILVER STATUS BY SPORTSCOTLAND!

Port Charlotte Primary has been recognised with a prestigious national award for innovation and achievement in delivering physical education and extra-curricular sport. Our school has achieved the sportscotland Silver School Sport Award for our commitment to engaging all pupils in sporting activity. It’s great that we have been awarded the sportscotland Silver School Sport Award. Our staff work incredibly hard to deliver a range of physical education and well done to the children for their continued participation in physical activity and sport which are important factors in the school curriculum.

 

Dunoon Primary ‘Our Children their Future’ App Presentation at Kilmory

 

A mobile app created by young people from Dunoon Primary School was unveiled at a meeting of Argyll and Bute Council’s Community Services Committee on Thursday 13th September 2017.The app provides information about the Education Service Vision and Strategy, “Our Children Their Future”, and was presented to members by three of Dunoon Primary’s Digital Leaders: Barry Campbell, Cameron MacRaild and Laurie Thorup.
