Good morning Primary Six , we hope you are all safe and warm on this very wintery weather morning !
Reminder – All pupils should have their Titanic challenge sheets home with them which provides a checklist for their Titanic books . Remember that images or pictures can include hand drawn illustrations so it is not necessary to have access to a computer to carry on with this project . If you haven’t designed your front cover why not do that today or if you are intending to write about your particular passenger , you could sketch them . You should be adding to your index . glossary and bibliography throughout your project so take notes!
Kensuke’s Kingdom – Please read chapter 8 . Remember to complete your reasons for and against sailing around the world – we are looking forward to an interesting debate !
Run Zan Run – Please read chapter 8 .
If you are heading out to build a snowman please remember to wear lots of layers and stay safe !
An update from the BBC…. apparently you should try to walk like a penguin ( feet slightly turned out) if you venture outside to stop yourself from slipping !! Whilst we are not sure if this works, it certainly makes you giggle !

Primary Six
Our show rehearsals are now in full swing and our budding thespians, narrators, singers and dancers are busily creating and learning their scripts, routines and musical ensembles. It’s shaping up to be a rock ‘n’ roll extravaganza! Letters have now been distributed regarding costumes. Please let us know is anyone needs help with anything.
Our last chapter of Kensuke’s Kingdom ended on a dramatic climax – homework for this week is to read chapter seven. By the level of anticipation and discussion taking place in class , Kensuke’s group certainly seem to be enjoying the novel. We are continuing to emphasise the importance of sharing and recommending our own reading experiences in order to boost the involvement in literacy of all our students. Run Zan Run produced some very animated debates this week regarding moral dilemmas and issues (very mature responses primary six) . Home work for this group is to read chapter seven and complete the summarising task .
We used pie charts and spreadsheets to analyse the actual capacity of the Titanic lifeboats compared to the how many passengers were in them and the results were rather shocking .
Primary Six enjoyed another session with NYCOS this week. We had to put our multi-tasking skills to the test when we combined rhythm, actions, equipment and singing .

Primary Six
It is great to hear so many discussions about authors within primary six . We are building a book tower of recommendations so no one should be stuck deciding what to read next! Kensuke’s Kingdom and Run Zan Run have been producing some in-depth discussions on the texts. The Neverlanders ( Kensuke’s Kingdom ) have the question maker task to compete and The Narnians( Run Zan Run ) are reading up to chapter 5 .
Work on decimals and fractions is progressing well, please take any opportunity to point out where we use them in everyday life.
We now have a dramatic wall display depicting the Titanic disaster; our pupils are insisting that it is as factually correct as possible, quite right too!
Primary Six are continuing to work hard and have certainly earned their half term break ! Well done Primary Six. We hope everyone has a happy and safe holiday.

Maths Homework – we would like to remind all pupils that they have maths homework EVERY WEEK. If we do not give out maths homework in the form of worksheet we still expect the pupils to be practising Times Tables, Fact Families , Number Bonds . We have shown the pupils games and activities they can do to practise.
Thank for your continued support.
