Why don’t you create your own sports day activities for your family to try over the weekend? Think about fun sports you can do in your back garden or in your Living room. You might want to see who can balance on 1 leg the longest or see who can hop the fastest around the garden? Remember you will need to keep scores and create a prize for the winner.

Good Morning Primary 1s!
We hope that you are all well! What a beautiful day we had yesterday, we hope that you managed to get outside and have some fun. The teachers all loved getting outside after work yesterday, Miss Christy went for a long cycle in the countryside, Miss Daun went for a run once it had cooled down a bit and Miss Cunningham went for a lovely walk.
Yesterday, we posted some new learning grids for you to work through. Try to do at least 3 of these activities today at some point and remember to post photos of your super work on the Learning Journals. It is so lovely seeing your work every day!
Before we moved to online learning we had started our ‘Fairyland’ topic. As always, we have created a SWAY to show this learning and we have added in a few photos from your work at home too! The link to the SWAY will be posted in your Learning Journal later this morning. Have a look to see if you can spot yourself in any of the photos!

The Rights Respecting School Article of the week is Article 7, the right to a name and nationality. Why don’t you have a discussion about why you chose the name for your child and maybe other names you had been considering? Talk about nationalities, about the country you come from and how you identify with that nation. The slide below gives some ideas of other activities you might want to try…

I particularly like the ‘identity hand’ task. Draw around your hand and write your name, date of birth, home country and 2 adults who help you on the fingers, then draw the flag of where you call home on the palm. We would love to see some of your hand prints on the Learning Journals.

It takes you to a story called ‘The name jar’. This is a story about a Korean girl who is learning about her name and identity as she moves to a new country. After watching the video talk about

– Why does the girl want to change her name?
– How do you think she feels when people make fun of her name?
– What would you do if you saw someone making fun of someone else’s name?
– What name does she end up with?

The Primary 1 teachers

Primary 4 5.5.17

We hope you had a nice couple of days holiday this week. Although short, it has been a  very productive week here in Primary 4. We have been busy writing letters to pen friends in France telling them all about us. These will travel with the teachers visiting France as part of our Erasmus project and they will bring some back for us. We were very impressed with their English  when we read their letters to us and now have a target to be able to write a letter in French to them by the end of Primary 4.

We have been learning all about time in Maths and have used timetables. We were able to think of lots of occasions in life where we would need these skills. We worked out the duration of programmes and transferred digital times into analogue and back again. We will move on to doing measure next week and hopefully will get outside now that the weather is nicer.

We hope also next Thursday to go on a mini-beast hunt in groups. If there are any parents who would be willing and free to come on our mini-beast hunt as a helper at 1:30pm, please call the office to arrange.

We are in the midst of writing a story in the style of the Famous Five books in order to enter a competition. The competition involves using ‘Sway’ on Microsoft to produce their story in an interactive way. The children wrote their openers this week and attempted to hook the reader into their story through use of exciting vocabulary and ideas. Watch this space! We have some budding authors in our midst.
