Primary 1 News

It’s been another exciting week in Primary 1! We worked together to make pancakes on Tuesday and created our own pancake instructions to make them at home. In phonics we learned the sound ‘th’ and identified words with this sound at the beginning and end. Our common words were ‘this’, ‘that’ and ‘then’ and we practised writing these words into a sentence.

In maths this week, we have been consolidating our understanding of addition and subtraction by using different strategies. We learned how to use a number line, 10 frames, rekenreks and cubes to solve problems.

We explored different dinosaur extinction theories and wrote about what we think happened to the dinosaurs. We also replied to a letter from Professor Rex and discussed what we have learned so far about dinosaurs. The children have really loved this topic!

In other areas, we learned French commands through a fun interactive dance. We learned all about the things that are safe/ unsafe to put inside our bodies and we were given the opportunity to explore our senses in the nursery garden. In P.E. the children have started a new gymnastics topic and continue to learn about co-ordination through ball skills.

Friendly Reminders

Primary 1 have P.E. on a Wednesday and Thursday so please make sure your child has a labelled P.E. kit with them on these days. As the children go down to the Nursery Garden on a Wednesday afternoon, it is advised that they bring a pair of welly boots with them on this day.

We are so excited for our class trip to the Museum! Please make sure the yellow form is returned to ensure your child can attend.

Thank you for your continued support,

Primary 1

It has been another exciting week in primary 1. Primary 1 had the opportunity to learn more about dinosaurs this week and have begun their own dinosaur fact files. They wrote facts about the Tyrannosaurus Rex this week and discussed whether this dinosaur was a carnivore or herbivore. They have learned about the role of a palaeontologist and have explored this through play in the classroom.

In phonics this week, the children learned the sounds j and v through our Jolly Phonics programme. They have been encouraged to blend words using these sounds and continue to work on forming their letters correctly.

In numeracy we have been learning about the numbers 16-20 and how they can be split into 10 and 6, 10 and 7 etc. They children have been using 10 frames and rekenreks to show how these numbers can be constructed.

We have started our Bounceback programme in health and wellbeing to develop resilience and positive thinking. They have explored this through stories and circle time games. The children have been learning how to say the days of the week and numbers 1-5 in French through fun songs! They are continuing to practise their Scottish Poem in the classroom, however please keep practising this at home as all children will be required to recite this on Wednesday 22nd. We now have P.E. on a Wednesday and Thursday so please make sure your child is coming to school with a labelled P.E. kit on those days.

Thank you all for your continued support. Have a great weekend!
