Primary 3 News 21.11.16

Primary 3 had a great week filled with lots of learning experiences including developing their understanding of the five senses. We got to taste various foods and describe the flavour as well as smell and feel a range of items. We got to welcome our Erasmus + visitors who then came to our classes to develop our multi lingual skills pronouncing various words in all the six different languages. After our visit to the woods, the children have produced some excellent setting descriptions making sure they have included a variety of adjectives describing all they could see and hear. In maths we have been continuing to refine our subtraction strategies as well as learn our 2 and 10 times tables. On top of all of this we have been getting stuck in to our Nativity rehearsals, developing lots of dancing, singing and acting!

A few reminders for the week ahead:

Nativity: Please can you make sure children with lines are regularly reading these at home and learning them off by heart. The show is two weeks away and whilst we have timetabled in lots of rehearsal time we would really appreciate the extra input outside of school also. Please check your child’s bag if you need to send in any costume bits and pieces, if you’re unsure just ask one of us!

Homework: Our spelling focus is on both ‘ee and ea’ sounds this week so children will be learning both sets of words from the last two weeks. Can we ask that children make a big effort with their sentences, adding lots of description and starting their sentences with different openers. It’s a habit worth developing.

PE: 3S have PE on Wednesday and 3R have PE on Thursday this week.

Enjoy your week!

Primary 3 News! 14.11.16

What a busy week we had last week!

In Maths we are really getting to grips with subtraction, taking away 9, 19, 29 and 11, 21, 31 and looking at strategies we can use. We also revisited the 2x tables so keep practising these at home!

In preparation for our Erasmus + visitors we made some Scottish gifts, a bookmark with a felt covered kilted man to show off our traditional dress. We also located on a map the six different countries and found out about their traditions, local food and monuments.

We are really getting into our Nativity rehearsals and parts will be given this week so we would really appreciate your support with line learning at home as the time is flying in! We will organise props and costumes this week and will let you know what your child needs to bring in from home. It is an all singing, all dancing show so all children will be involved whether they are speaking, dancing or singing.

This week’s homework:

Reading: As indicated in their diaries

Spelling: ‘ea’ focus

Maths: 10x table

Please ensure your child makes a really big effort with their sentences and include lots of description.

Our Erasmus + visitors arrive tomorrow so it’s a very exciting week for us all. Some teachers will be popping into our classrooms to say hello so do ask the boys and girls about it.

Massive thank you to those mums that assisted us in the woods today, although a little muddy at the entrance it was a great woodland walk and gave the children lots of descriptive ideas for their writing tomorrow!

PE will be on Wednesday for P3S and Thursday for P3R

Have a great week!

*The enthusiasm for all of our topics, particularly the Titanic

*The sporting opportunities such as Futsal, Cross Country, Rugby and Handball

*Transition to High School

There is so much more for them to look forward to in the next academic year but until then have a fantastic summer break! Lets hope the sun shines and we all get a good rest!

Morning! Hope you all had a lovely long weekend and looking forward to the final few weeks of the school year!

Last week P6 were given the opportunity to experience what High School life would be like. Both classes set off excitedly to Deans Community High School and got to experience a range of lessons in English, Maths, PE, Music, Science and Social Subjects. The high school teachers prepared a range of activities that were very motivating, we had never seen the children so quiet! Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and are now looking forward to the continued transition experiences in P7.

P6 have also been busy designing their own animations using the I Pads. This has been a very exciting learning opportunity for the children and we hope to share some of these later on in June on our Open Day. Below are some pictures of the children preparing their characters and backdrops before filming their scenes.

This Friday we will be taking P6 to a Rugby Festival at the Rugby Club in Livingston. The children will be leaving school at 9am and returning by 12pm. They will need warm clothing,  waterproofs and sensible footwear as well as a water bottle and snack. We are looking for four parent helpers so if you would be interesting in giving us a hand then please contact the school office. The children will be coming home with letters today so please complete the EE2 forms required.

Next week the children will continue their rugby taster sessions so please can you make sure your child brings their outdoor PE kit to school on Monday and Wednesdays.

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our student, Miss Blackwall, who passed her PGDE course and placements and will start her teaching career in the next academic session in the Glasgow area! This is our last week with her and she has been a fabulous addition to the P6 team.

Have a good week!

Just a reminder about some of the events taking place in P6 this week:

Tuesday 17th May: We will be heading to Deans High School for our Transition Morning. This will take place between 9:30 and 12 so the children will be back in time for lunch but they will need to take a snack with them for break. Also could all children bring in their PE kit as some children will be getting a taste of High School PE.

Thursday 19th May: Weather permitting this will be our Sports Day, please ensure all children come in their house colours and the appropriate kit and footwear. This will be starting at 9:30am.

House colours are:

Raeburn: Green

Sutherland: Yellow

Waverley: Red

Deer Park: Blue

PE Kit is still required on a Monday and a Wednesday for both classes.

Please ensure your child completes all spelling activities including the additional task, this will develop their skills in writing further.

P6KS have been doing an animation project using iPads with Miss Blackwall, our PGDE student, so children are able to bring in any figures to assist them in their project, such as Lego men, small superhero figures etc.

Don’t forget about the new lunch system using Ipay Impact, a much easier way of paying for school lunches online. Letters have been given to advise you how you can do this but any problems just get in touch with us.

Have a good week!

Primary 6 29th April 2016

Looking forward to seeing you all later on this morning for the P6 Assembly, the children have worked so hard and a credit to the school.

Just to remind you that on Monday and Tuesday school will not be open and there will be no spelling next week.

PE kit required on a Monday and Wednesday but encourage your child to come with lots of layers as our weather is being so unpredictable lately!

P6KS have a PGDE student for the next five weeks. Miss Blackwall has been taking the class for various lessons but will be teaching them full time from the 9th May for 3 weeks with the support of Mrs Smith and Mrs Kelly. She has settled in really well and has lots of exciting things planned for the children!

Have a lovely long weekend and lets hope the sun comes out at some point!

Sport Relief 2016

Primary 6 have been putting their heads together this week to come up with some fundraising ideas for Sport Relief. A letter with information about this has been emailed to you all but details are also attached below:

This year we are really excited to be raising money for Sport Relief 2016! As one of the UK’s biggest fundraising events, Sport Relief brings the entire nation together to get active, raise cash and change lives.

Sport Relief 2016 will be kicking off in schools and nurseries on Friday 18th March.

Carmondean Primary School has decided to get involved and help raise money for this incredible cause.

To do our bit and raise money we will be:

  • Selling Wristbands for £1 from Monday 7th March
  • Holding a Bake Sale on Thursday 17th March, donations for this are most welcome! Please see letter overleaf with information on donations of homebaking)
  • Holding a Sporty Dress Down Day on Friday 18th March costing 50p and each class will take part in an obstacle course that morning.
  • In addition, if children want to take their chances ‘Beating the Teacher’ in a skip off or something similar, this will be taking place at break time and will cost 50p to take part.

And, the best bit is, the money raised by the public is spent by Comic Relief to help people living incredibly tough lives, both at home in the UK and across the world’s poorest countries. To learn more about how Comic Relief spends the money raised for Sport Relief please look at the pamphlet below or visit sportrelief.com/schools.

We will also be using Sport Relief as a teaching opportunity so that our pupils can learn about the issues children across the world face, and how the money we raise can help them.

We really appreciate your support and hope that you’ll have fun helping our school raise lots of money for Sport Relief!

If you do have time please visit the web site indicated above as it is a real eye opener into how this charity supports people in both the UK and around the world. We will be kicking things off on Monday with the sale of Sport Relief Wristbands costing £1.

If you are able to donate any bought or baked items for Thursday 17th March then this would be appreciated too.

Every little bit helps!

Dalguise News!

We have just received our daily update from our P6 children:

We are having fun at Dalguise.   Our first activity on Monday night was a game of Cluedo throughout the grounds of Dalguise in the dark.  We had to solve the murder and saw the ’wet section’ where our instructor Louise got soaked with ice cold water.

A lot of us have overcome our fears by taking part in activities such as climbing a tower and a 75 foot tree.  We have also been learning fencing, quad biking, mountain biking and taking part in team challenges such as a sensory trail and the challenge course.

We are looking forward to participating in a game called ambush tonight.  It is basically hide and seek in the woods in the dark.  We will tell you all about this tomorrow.

Rebecca, Helena and Ben on behalf of all of P6 at Dalguise.

Primary 6: Things to remember!

Dalguise:

The Dalguise leaflet that was issued to children contained all the relevant information you required along with information on what to bring, but here are a few reminders:

Essentials:

  • Towels (2)
  • Toiletries-stick deodorant only
  • Nightwear & underwear
  • Lots of old, warm clothes (no jeans) (5 of each if poss)
  • Hat and gloves
  • Warm, waterproof jacket & trousers if you have them
  • Old training shoes (at least 2 pairs)
  • Practical/sturdy shoes or boots
  • Lots of socks (thick & long for some activities)
  • Disco clothes
  • Black bag for dirty clothes
  • Small rucksack for day use & plastic bottle for drinks
  • Lipsalve is advisable

ALL CLOTHING & BELONGINGS SHOULD BE NAMED. Your child has to carry their own bag so please ensure they are able to do so and that they can pack their own bag.

IMPORTANT – If your child requires medication (in particular travel sickness tablets) whilst we are away could you please ensure that you have completed a Medical Consent form if you haven’t done so already. Any medication can be brought to school on the morning of departure.

We will depart from Carmondean Primary at approx. 1.15pm.  Children should come into school at the usual time in the morning and bring their cases with them. There is no requirement to wear school uniform. We will return to school on Friday 4th March at approximately 3.00pm.    Please ensure there is an adult to meet your child from the bus. Please also park outwith the school car park to enable the bus to reverse in safely. Your help would be appreciated in this matter. You will be group called if this time changes so please ensure the office has your most up to date mobile number.

Please do not send any extra money with them as £10 spending money was included in the total cost of the trip.  It is Council policy that children do not carry mobile phones on residentials so please assist us in this matter.

PE Kit:

All those children not taking part in the Dalguise trip, please ensure you bring both indoor and outdoor kit everyday as there will be many opportunities to go to the hall or outside to participate in various games.

World Book Day:

On Thursday 3rd March we will be celebrating World Book Day, please come to school dressed up as a favourite character and bring a book they might like to share with the class. There might also be an opportunity to read to the younger ones so perhaps children could bring in a book that they liked to read when they were little.

Sports Relief:

The remaining P6 children will also be very busy planning their own Sports Relief fund raising ideas and activities. More information will be given to you all next week about this.

Titanic Shoe Box Challenge:

Don’t forget to bring in a shoe box and other materials that could be used to recreate a cabin from that time.

Homework:

There will be no homework next week.

Enjoy your weekend and looking forward to a very busy week next week!

Mrs Smith, Mrs Kelly & Mrs Muir
