Trip to the Woods

This week the nursery children had the opportunity to spend the Nursery session at the Lanthorn Woods. Many children enjoyed spending time in the little stream, climbing trees and playing at the toadstools. They had some tomato soup to warm them up. We all enjoyed our time up there even the staff.

Super Tessellations

This week, we have been busy doing lots of different things. In Maths, we have been recapping properties of 3D shapes and we have been learning how to tessellate 2d shapes to make super patterns.

In science, we have also been learning about conductors and insulators. We conducted an investigation to see which materials would let electricity flow through them. Materials such as paper clips, foil and coins would conduct electricity!

We have started to learn our 3 timetables about we have been practising making arrays and repeated addition. We have also been learning to multiply a 2 digit number by a 1 digit number!

Well done this week Primary Four!!

Successful Learners Impressing in P1b

This week we have been learning our new sounds sh, ch and th.  We have been practising reading and writing the sounds and our tricky words.  We have also been working hard using the coathangers and the velcro mats to spell different words and to make sentences.

In maths, we have been practising our addition and have been learning all about subtraction.  We know that this means the same as take away or minus.  We made some minus monsters and have been using the cubes and counters to help us take away.  We have also been working on our number talks and have been sharing how we worked out or answers with others.

In structured play, we enjoyed playing with the lego and using the tools to build.  We also enjoyed working in small teams to run the Bankton Restaurant.  It was very busy today with lots of phonecalls to reserve tables.  The children even had to deal with some unhappy customers who were complaining!

Keep up the good work next week!

Visit to the woods

This week the nursery children in both sessions visited the woods at the Lanthorn Pond to hide monkey nuts for the squirrels. We will go back next week to check if there is any left.

Some of the squirrels were even seen watching while we were hiding them.

P1b Update……..

Over the past couple of weeks we have been continuing to work hard to learn lots of new sounds.  We have been talking about where in the mouth they are made and what colours they are.  We have also been learning how to form them correctly and have been making some things at the craft table that begin with these sounds.

We are also working on sliding our sounds together to help us read and spell words.  We are getting really good at this!  We are continuing to work on reading and writing our tricky words too.

In maths, we have worked on estimating and have been practising writing our numbers to ten correctly.  We have also been adding two groups together, sequencing numbers to 20 and jumping on the number line to add one or two more.

Last week, we enjoyed our ‘spotty walk’ for children in need.  It was great fun walking with our buddies.

Our day was finished off today when Badger the Mystical Mutt made a special appearance during our assembly.  We listened to chapter 1 from one of his books this morning and enjoyed drawing pictures of him and acting out some parts of the story.  We were so surprised to see him at assembly today!  We can’t wait to read more of his chapter book next week!

A busy week in P4

This week in P4, we have been learning about Anti Bullying week. We know that bullying is when someone is repeated unkind to you!
We have spoken a lot this week about being a good friend and we wrote a ‘recipe for friendship’.

In maths, we have been learning how to solve word problems using these rules
1. Read the problem carefully
2.Underline the important facts
3. Draw a picture
4. Write a sum
5. Solve the problem

We also learnt how to use the bar modelling strategy to help us to see what the problem looks like.

In Science, we learnt how to make a parallel circuit.

At the end of the week, we had a very exciting assembly all about ‘Badger the Mystical Mutt’ . The authors of this book are going to be our reading patrons and we will be doing some work with them over the year.
‘I liked listening to the story she told and the Unicorn’ Samantha
‘I enjoyed Badger’s magic tricks’ Ayla
‘I liked it when the author showed us the crystal’ Katie

Josh and Emily were lucky enough to speak to the author and this chat will be aired on BBC Scotland radio on Boxing day!

Its all been very exciting!!!

Spotty Walk

This week the morning nursery children joined the primary school children for their Spotty Walk to raise money for Children in Need. The children from Primary 6 came and walked with the children talking to them as the walked around the area close to the school.

We then went and had a little play at the park while the primary school children continued back to school to get on with their school work.

We would like to thank everyone for their kind donations.
