The book club really enjoyed our pancake theme yesterday.
We read the story Mr Wolf’s Pancakes, and we all agreed that Mr Wolf was rather greedy!!
We then took the ‘Pancake Flipping Challenge’, where we had 30 seconds to flip a pancake as many times as we could (it was quite hard)!!!
Finally, we settled down to read some books and ate some delicious pancakes! Yummy!!!
Over the last two weeks we have enjoyed learning about Chinese New Year. The children listened to the story about the animals racing to see who would have the first year named after them and they participated in craft activities to make lanterns and dragons. Everyone loved doing the dragon dance and enjoyed dancing while Rong Rong played her Chinese guitar.
The whole class were put into pairs to work together making their Roman Armour out of paper. In order to do this they had to use lots of different skills such as problem solving, cutting, measuring and sticking as well listening and talking which is a challenge to such a ‘quiet’ class!!
Everyone produced super diary entries about ‘A Day in the Life of a Roman Slave’ especially Liam who nearly wore out his gym shoes as Mrs Sinclair kept sending him back to up-level his diary entry.
Samantha liked doing the Roman Mosaic with Mrs Ferguson. Mrs Sinclair looks forward to seeing these mosaics displayed around the school.

Paint Challenge
Can you paint from one side to the other using only two primary colours and white without repetition? I couldn’t!
The whole class enjoyed doing this challenge especially Isabel who worked very hard on her mixing skills to try and achieve this challenge. Please read this post next week to find out how she got on.
In maths we are learning our times tables. Please spend a few minutes each day asking your child 2x & 3x table questions.
On Friday we all dressed down in colours from the Kenya flag. As Euan is soon departing on his trip to Kenya to volunteer to help paint some classrooms in a school we put our hands in our pockets and raised a whopping £200. Such an amazing effort from everyone involved.
We look forward to hearing all of Euan’s stories upon his return.

Two people from our class got through to the Scottish poetry competition final in school. Adam and Chloe B did a fantastic job reciting ‘The Coming of the Wee Malkies’. Adam was overall winner! Everyone in the class did a terrific job learning their poems and added lots of expression and actions.
We are busy learning about Vikings and enjoyed being Viking raiders in drama.
P3/4 also drew some lovely Viking Long Boats.
The book club have been enjoying lots of stories, poems, silly games and arts & crafts over the last few terms.
Today, we really enjoyed listening to ‘Burglar Bill’, and eating our ‘bookworms’ whilst we read our books.
Last week the children in nursery enjoyed playing in the snow. They were also making bird cake to care for the birds. The children spotted a Pied Wagtail, House Sparrows, Magpies, Crows and Blackbirds.
In Maths, Emma M has enjoyed learning the times tables and the whole class have enjoyed learning the 2x & 3x tables song except for Mrs Sinclair who kept singing the 3x table song in her sleep.
In P.E. Josh enjoyed climbing really high on the wall bars. A big well done to Rhys who successfully climbed the box by himself after struggling for a little while.
A huge congratulations to Samantha & Amy for their recital of ‘Mince and Tatties’ and Carla for her Ally Bally Song. We will see you all on X Factor in the future.
Our Roman topic is now up and running and the children are desperate to find out about the Roman helmet which sits in our classroom. We are also looking forward to looking at Matthew’s pictures on Monday. Further updates and pictures to follow in the coming weeks.
As always we practised handwriting and a special mention goes to Ryan who enjoyed joining up his letters.
This week we have been really busy with our lego projects.
The children were great at giving instructions in a clear way and listening carefully to each other!

Primary one had a fabulous opportunity today when they were given a taste of the skills needed for playing tennis. Coach Ian complimented the children on how hard they had worked and on how well they were controlling the tennis balls. Josh showed off his knowledge when he confidently named some tennis players and Jason was really impressed by coach Ian’s skills saying that he was awesome! The children are very much looking forward to session two next week.
