P2/3 Update!

Star of the Week

Instead of having a ‘Star of the Week’ I decided to have ‘Stars of the Week’ for our class as they were fab role models as representatives of Bankton Primary School on our school trip.

Stars of the Week

Charles loved gathering shells on the beach.

Andre loved the abbey.

The rest of the class loved the seals, the beach and the boat ride.

Class Dojo

Our weekly champion was Samantha with a fantastic total of total of 52 points and Aaron K coming a close second with 51.

Reading

During our ‘Guided Reading Sessions’ we have learned two new reading strategies i.e. ‘Eagle Eye’ and ‘Stretchy Snake’.  Please ask your child how these strategies can help them to read.

Primary 6 Learning Update

What a busy week!

Rhys enjoyed watching the Harvest assembly performed by P5. It brought back memories from when he did it!

Kian loved practising and performing the anti-bullying drama his group planned and presented. We are all looking forward to watching the film of each group and those of Primary 5/6.

Shayne liked watching what the P5s got up to at Lowport. It looked like they had great fun just like Shayne did when he went.

Amy enjoyed the assembly today learning who won the House Cup – well done Almond and Leving. Come on Lanthorn and Camelot!!!!!

Sophie really enjoyed working in her group for drama – she says it was really fun!

P3 Island Adventure

Yesterday P3, P2/3 and P2 went on the ferry from South Queensferry to Inchcolm Island. We were very lucky with the weather and enjoyed a beautiful sunny day spotting seals and having our picnic lunch on the beach.

Andrew and Emma M thought going to the abbey was really good especially going in to the rooms.

Caiden and the rest of the class thought going on the boat was FUN!

Linda loved seeing the baby seal. It looked up at us with its big brown eyes.

Emma S loved the island but decided she wouldn’t want to live there as she would have to get water from the well.

Our week in P4/5

We enjoyed writing this week about our dream piece of playground equipment.  Chloe M and Liam really enjoyed designing their equipment.  In science we learnt about evolution and why animals needed to evolve.  We learnt about white moths that adapted their colour to camouflage with the black trees. Carla was our star of week for being an effective contributor and Chloe & Emma took our Dojo of the week honours!

Open Morning

Many thanks to all Parents and Families who gave up their time to attend our Open Morning on Friday. There were many positive comments made about the diversity of learning on show – from Vowel House and Colourful Consonants to Electrifying Circuits and Awesome Art. The House Captains and Vice Captains were very informative guides, making sure all adults found their way to the correct classrooms – well done!

All parents were very complimentary about the choir and said how good it was to hear the school filled with music once again. Thank you also to the beginner brass group who confidently showcased their skills.

Staff and pupils were delighted by the comments left by parents in each classroom – these will be displayed together on Parent Consultation Evenings.

I look forward to welcoming P.5 parents to the Lowport Assembly later this week.

This week in P4/5

We have been very lucky to have Iona from the secondary school in to help us this week. We will miss her lots when she goes back to her own school.  We have enjoyed starting our new topic about the Bankton playground, but we found the mapping of the playground quite difficult! We worked really hard to improve our throwing and catching skills in PE.  in writing we worked very hard to convince the council not to build houses in our playground.  I hope they reconsider (FYI – This was just a hook in our writing, West Lothian Council has no plans to build here!)  Our parents came in to visit today to see how we were getting on with our work.  It was really fun and good to see the parents in the classroom.  Some even got a free art lesson.

What a week!!

Isabel, Matthew Carla had lots of fun making a dog house and Morgan had fun playing with the magnetic squares and triangles in golden time. Jack enjoyed learning about 3 d shapes in maths and says, “A 3d shape you can see all around you but a 2d shape is flat.” Carlos liked finding out about different lines in symmetry. P4 are feeling sad because Mrs Porteous is leaving and we will miss her but we hope that she will be very happy in her new job. We are sure that she will be proud of us because we won the Goblet of Good Manners this week. Mrs Balfour is very impressed with us.25.9.15 005

The Week in P4/5

This week has been a very short and busy week.  We once again enjoyed the National Youth Choir of Scotland and their very fun games and songs.  We are very excited for what will come next!  Katie thought the writing was very fun this week as we were writing our own set of instructions for George’s Marvelous Medicine.  Ella Gordon was our Star Writer!  Jenny from Niamh’s Brownie’s group came to join us for our P.E. lesson. (Jenny is a doll!)  Liam had really good fun sorting very larger numbers.  Chloe Bell and Hannah won our Dojo points for the week and Deano had an excellent week and won Star of the Week in assembly!

Amazing Writing

The P7 writing group have been working very hard today and have collaborated to produce this amazing piece of writing.  We hope you like it!

The Tsunami

Everywhere I look, the landscape has been taken over with rubbish, rats and blood stains.

My fists are locked with anger because this wave has destroyed my life.

The air is filled with sounds of other people’s screams and cries.

There is a disgusting smell of sewage all around me.

The most important things in my life have gone!

What’s happening in P4?

We had lots of fun in our vertical learning groups this week. Zoe really enjoyed her time beginning to work on ‘The Bankton News’. Carlos feels very proud about being the director of the newspaper. Isabel is looking forward to helping the tuck shop team get out tuck shop back and working properly again for everyone to enjoy. Louise is looking forward to making her egg race kart in science. Brooke was in the song writing group and loved writing a song about Bankton. We can’t wait to hear it.

Lots of people have really enjoyed our new golden time rota. People get to choose which activity they want to do each week. Laura has had great fun playing board games in Mr Herman’s class. Ryan likes working with construction materials in golden time. Pramila loves art work and painting with Mrs Ferguson during golden time.

Sanah liked adding tens and units this week and thought that it was easy. Everyone is working hard- well done P4.september 2015 013 september 2015 003
