Good morning P3/4. I hope you are having lots of fun playing in the snow. As soon as I’ve finished some marking, Nikki and myself are planning to build snowmen as well as snowball fights. Please feel free to write a comment and let me know what you’ve been up to throughout the day. Thanks Mrs Sinclair

Buddy Reading
This week the morning and afternoon nursery children were lucky enough to have the children from Primary 4 to come and read them some lovely stories. All the children were well behaved and everyone enjoyed this experience.
P3/4
We were also lucky to have a visit from Sarah’s day to talk about electricity. We enjoyed looking at and touching all of the props that he brought in. We also loved the mini windmills that he gave us.

P3/4 Highlights
For Scottish Maths week we have been designing place value monsters to show our teacher our understanding of place value.
For Roald Dahl day we watched a video clip of the BFG catching dreams and then we wrote our own dreams in a dream jar.
IDL: We have been learning about the different inventions of Alexander Graham Bell such as a metal detector, as well as a device that can separate grain from husks and not forgetting the telephone.

Welcome back P4 !!
P4 have had a super week back ! We have been settling in to our new routines and been taking part in lots of team building activities. We enjoyed the challenge of making marshmallow towers and working as a team to make the biggest tower.
We have also started to get into our learning groups for the year!
Well done Primary 4 !
P4/5 and P4 Viking Points Homework Presentations
Thank you to all of the mums, dads, grannies and all who came to see and hear about all of the work that we have been doing on Vikings this term. We all enjoyed presenting what we have learned and found this topic very interesting. It was great fun sharing our learning with you.
What a lot of rubbish!!!
P4/5 & P4 Litter Pickers clean up Kenilworth Rise
Today we went out to do some litter picking round about the school to help the environment. We found a load of rubbish just down the path a short way from the school gate.
There was everything from polystyrene packing, pieces of metal and a plank of wood to cans, cigarette ends and sweetie papers. It was really messy but now the bits that we have been to are clean.
We feel proud of the difference that this has made to our local community. We picked up two big bags of rubbish and P4 picked up the same.
Everybody needs to remember to put their rubbish in the bin so as not to hurt nature. You can help our area become a better place by picking up litter. Remember! Don’t Drop It! Put it in your pocket!
World Book Day
As part of World Book Day the nursery children had the opportunity to dress up as characters from various books and they also had the pleasure of Primary 4 and Primary 4/5 children sharing stories with them. Some older children brought books to share with others and some children borrowed the nursery books.
We even managed a wee play together after sharing their love of reading.
Run, Jump, Throw Club – P4-7
There is a FREE ATHLETICS open afternoon taking place at the James Young H.S on Friday 20th January from 2.00-3.30pm. The club is aimed at P4-P7 pupils and is a fun club focusing on running, jumping and throwing. This will give children the opportunity to try out the sport before committing to joining the club and paying for the block. If you would like any further information and to book your child a space you should contact Kim O’Connor, Active Schools Coordinator on email: kim.o’connor@westlothian.gov.uk or Tel: 07917078448.
A Magical Movie Night
Thank you everyone for coming to the P4 and P4/5 Christmas enterprise on Thursday 8th December. We are grateful that everyone came. Did you like all of the Christmassy food like the biscuits and peppermint creams and of course all of the Christmassy decorations – reindeer lolly pops, candy cane mice, skittle boxes, pyramid bags and the sweetie bags? We hope everyone who came enjoyed it. We raised just over £275 which we are going to spend on our school playground/ grounds.
