April 2023 – Reading Schools Award Silver

We are delighted to have been awarded our Silver Reading Schools Award. This is all down to our amazing Literacy Pupil Group and the hard work they have put in to redeveloping our library, ordering new book titles, setting up the library and promoting reading within our school!

January 2023

The Pupil Group met today in the School Library and we spotted the things we liked in it.

We love the new rug and the colourful cushions.

It is good to sit on the sofa and read.

The library is cool.

The children spent time looking at Authors Live and have asked teachers to watch some clips with the whole class.

You can watch these at home too with the following link:

We were delighted to meet the newest members of the Literacy Ambassadors pupil voice group.  We had a very productive first meeting and welcomed Elaine from Hamilton Library. We shared our vision for the school Library with Elaine and she gave us lots of ideas on how we can improve our library space. We can’t wait to get started!

22 September 2021

Below are the meeting minutes for the Literacy Ambassadors group. Our meeting minutes set out what we discussed during today’s meeting and our action points.

Points from previous meeting: Trying to get in touch with an author and getting some things prepared for a wall display.
Main discussion points from today:

·       Benefits of an author talking to school – would encourage people to read and maybe even try to write something themselves.

·       What we can put on our wall display – add book covers and book reviews so people can see recommendations and get ideas of new authors to try. Have books recommended that will be appropriate for infant, junior and senior areas.

·       We could carry out a survey in the classes to see who people’s favourite authors are and these could then be used to help people get recommendations for new books to try.

Focus Article:

Article 13 – we have the right to express our thoughts and opinions and to access information.

Action Points:

Create book covers for the wall display that will be suitable for the infants, juniors and seniors.

·       Make book reviews to have on the wall display to help other pupils find new books that interest them.

·       Look at making a survey for classes to conduct of best authors so that these can be used to make recommendations to others.
