We are looking forward to learning lots of new things and developing lots of new skills in Primary 5. Check back each month for an update on the exciting and fun things we have been doing in class.
August/September-
Maths – Shape
We have been learning all about 2D and 3D shape in Maths. We have been focusing on identifying, naming and describing the features of 2D and 3D shapes. We have explored 2D shapes, found them in our school environment, discussed where we can find 3D shapes in real life and created posters for 2D and 3D shapes, naming them and listing their features.
PE
On a Wednesday, we will be exploring different types of Possession Games. We have been learning about cue recognition and demonstrating this when moving into a space to receive the ball.
Reading
Our class novel this term is Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White. We have been exploring a range of reading strategies to support our understanding of the book. These strategies include: metalinguistics, inference, prior knowledge and visualisation.
Expressive Arts
Art & Design
Our artist focus this term has been Roy Lichtenstein, well-known for his Pop Art style paintings and sculptures. Primary 5 have been creating self portraits in the style of Roy Lichtenstein and they are looking very effective. We can’t wait to showcase these in our classroom!
Meta Skills
Creativity
Critical Thinking
Class Charter
As we settled into class we did some revision on our Rights and chose which ones we felt best suited us and our classroom. We then discussed how we could uphold these Rights and then made our own Class Charter.
