Important Information

General Information
  • Please ensure your child has a pair of indoor shoes in school. They will change into these when entering the school building.
  • If your child is bringing a bottle to school, we would encourage this to be water only.
  • Our Sensory Gym days are Tuesday and Thursday.
  • Our library day is a Tuesday – please return your child’s book each week to allow them to borrow a new one.
  • Our Forest School day will be on a  Wednesday  during Term 1 with Mrs Benson. Please provide outdoor clothing and appropriate footwear for your child to change into.
  • We will use diaries to communicate with parents and carers and keep you updated on the learning and fun we have been having in class each day!

Glasgow Topic – Crane Building 

As part of our Glasgow topic with Room 12, we have been learning about Glasgow Landmarks. One of these is the Finnieston Crane. We used straws to build our own cranes!

Glasgow Topic – Cloud Spotting 

As part of our Topic, we have been cloud spotting with Room 12, identifying the different types of clouds we could see floating above the school.

Numeracy – Area

We have been learning about area, calculating and comparing different areas.

Gym – Gross Motor Skills

We’ve been developing our gross motor skills in gym by travelling across different surfaces at different levels.

Numeracy – Division

This month we have been learning about division and have been practising dividing by sharing equally using cubes and different items.

Science – Flight

Continuing our learning on forces, we learned about how aeroplanes fly. We then made our own planes and had turns making them fly across the classroom!

Science – Forces

We have been learning about different forces this month. We explored different toys and every objects that you have to push or pull. We also learned about friction and how this impacts movement. We carried out our own experiment by observing how different textured surfaced impacts the speed and distance a toy car travels.

Fine Motor Skills

We’ve been taking part in lots of different activities to develop our fine motor skills. One of our favourites is using the lollipop sticks to create different pictures and patterns.

 

ICT/Numeracy – Chromebooks

We’ve been developing our ICT skills and our numeracy skills by using the Chromebooks to complete some sessions of Easimaths!

 

Literacy – The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch 

This month we have started reading The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch series as class novels for literacy. We’ve been enjoying the stories about Mr and Mrs Grinling and their cat Hamish. We also learned about lighthouses and used our art skills to create lovely lighthouse pictures.

Cosy Cafe – Chocolate Christmas Trees

As a Christmas treat we made some chocolate Christmas trees. We melted some chocolate, practising kitchen safety around the hot water, and decorated our own Christmas tree treats.

Cosy Cafe – Pizza

We made some pizzas at the Cosy Cafe. We talked about safety when using an oven and prepared our own cheese or cheese and ham tortilla pizzas. As you can see, they were super tasty!

Gym – Ball Skills

We’ve been working on our ball skills – throwing, catching, bouncing and kicking the ball. We had great fun trying to make a basket in the hoop!

Cosy Cafe – Fruit Wands

We’ve started going to the Cosy Cafe on a Tuesday. This month we’ve made delicious fruit wands. We chose our favourite fruits, helped prepare them and safely placed them on a skewer to make our wands. We also learned about food hygiene – washing our hands and surfaces before preparing food.

Forest School

We’ve enjoyed our last few Forest School sessions. We’ve been managing risk by climbing and balancing on trees and logs. We were also lucky to make some smores with Mrs McCreadie too!

Science – Waterproof Materials

We have been scientists this month! We learned about waterproof materials and when we would use this type of material. We then examined different materials and hypothesised whether or not we thought these would make a good umbrella. We then tested each material!

Forest School

We’ve still been enjoying our Forest School sessions each Wednesday morning. We’ve been enjoying the hammock and making some clay faces on the trees using natural materials.

Forest School

We started Forest School this month! We’ve been lucky to have some beautiful sunny days and have spent our Wednesday morning’s in the woods. Our favourite activities so far are bug hunting and the mud kitchen – it’s been great fun! We also made some fantastic crowns using natural materials.

Library

We’ve been enjoying visiting the library each week. We spend some time choosing our own books to borrow each week and enjoy sitting reading and listening to stories while we are there.

Numeracy – Place Value

We’ve been learning about place value. We used concrete materials to split numbers into hundreds, tens and units.

Numeracy – Numbers to 100

We’ve started the year learning numbers to 100! We’ve been counting, identifying and ordering/sequencing numbers to 100.

 

Sensory Gym

We’ve been enjoying exploring lots of equipment at sensory gym. We’ve been working on our gross motor skills and demonstrating how to use equipment safely.
