WELCOME TO PRIMARY 1!
Everyone has settled really well into Primary 1, making new friends and learning new class routines. We have had a busy first term and are looking forward to lots more wonderful learning throughout the year.
Below are just a few reminders for our class…
- Please ensure all items of clothing/lunch boxes/water bottles are named clearly.
- Children must have a change of shoes for indoor use, these can be kept in school in the cloakroom area.
- Water is encouraged in our water bottles.
- Our PE Days are Wednesday and Friday.
- Forest School / Woods Day – Mondays. Please wear clothing and shoes that you don’t mind getting muddy!
- Homework will be issued on a Monday and should be on Friday. Instructions for homework and reminders of any weekly events will be on Google Classroom on a Monday and all materials and resources for homework will be in your child’s homework folder.
- Homework Diaries – The children and myself will add a comment about our behaviour, work or effort each week in the diary. Parents / Carers should discuss this with the child when the diary comes home on a Monday and then add your comment.
We are off to a super start in Primary 1, take a look at some of our wonderful learning so far this year…
Chinese New Year 2025
We enjoyed learning about Chinese New Year and finding out that it was the year of the Snake this year. We had lots of fun learning how to write numerals in Mandarin and even say hello. We used a variety of materials to create Chinese lanterns and make our own snakes for the year of the snake. We loved finding out what animal we were in the year that we were born!
Numeracy January 2025
We have been working hard to develop our knowledge of addition and have enjoyed playing lots of games to add groups of objects together. Look at these super learners showing off their wow work!
IDL – Term 3
This term, we will be exploring the concept of ‘day and night’ and learning all about the concept of time, the sun and the moon and different nocturnal and diurnal animals. This week, we explored different things we could see in the sky at different times of the day and night and we even did our own ‘cloud spotting’. We learned about different types of clouds and what it means for the weather when we see certain clouds. We took our cloud spotters outside and did our own research! We also explored with different painting techniques to make our own sun! We learned that the sun is a star made of lots of different gases.
Literacy
You wouldn’t believe the amazing progress we have made in Literacy so far over these first 2 terms in Primary 1! Every day, we work on developing our mark making and writing skills and we learn new sounds each week to help us learn to read. We are all very busy bees in Room 1 and are turning into the most fantastic readers and writers . Take a look at some of us hard at work during our Literacy times…
Numeracy
We have been learning lots in Numeracy and have explored 2D and 3D shapes at the start of term. We have enjoyed developing our learning through play and working together. We are working on our knowledge of numbers and have been learning to recognise, count and order numbers. We have some magical Maths Wizards in our class!! Here is a snap shot of our learning in these first few terms.
Forest School
On Mondays, we enjoy our Forest School sessions where we develop lots of skills such as collaboration, risk assessing, team work and building resilience. On our frostier mornings, we have enjoyed warming up with some hot chocolate and s’mores by the fire! We were AMAZING at knowing how to stay safe around fire and made sure that we followed key instructions to keep everyone safe. We have enjoyed finding different wildlife that have habitats in our forest and doing some research to find out all about them!
Halloween Spooktacular
In October, we enjoyed celebrating all things spooky and had lots of fun taking part in our Halloween Spooktacular! We had some wonderful costumes and enjoyed a Halloween Themed day in class too!
Learning through Play
Primary 1 have been visited by a ‘secret superhero’ who is on the lookout to recruit more superheros. We’ve had to learn all about what makes a fabulous superhero and then train hard at superhero headquarters! We have enjoyed completing lots of missions that have been sent to us, whilst developing lots of skills at the same time!
