Welcome to the Science Department

Science in first and second year is concerned with the understanding of a body of scientific knowledge and the development of scientific skills through practical activities. It contributes to the development of logical thinking and reasoning, skills of observation, measurement, interpretation, numeracy, problem solving and decision making.

The course is delivered through a number of units which cover aspects of chemistry, physics and biology. In the first year these are: An Introduction to science, States of Matter, Elements, Mixtures and Compounds, Electricity, Body Systems. Topics covered in second year are: Heat and Energy, Chemical Reactions, DNA, Life Processes, Forces.
