BGE Phase (S1-S3)

Within Art & Design pupils work to develop tangible real world skills using a wide range of 2D & 3D media.

Throughout the BGE phase pupils work to expand their skills from primary through skills-based learning and pupil-led projects. The projects focus on prominent Art & Design movement & styles and their artists & designers.

Projects include:

Figure drawing, Portraiture, Still life, Urban art, Landscape art, Product design, Graphic design, Fashion design, Architecture & Photography.

Media covered within these projects include:

Pencil, Paint, Pen, Chalk, Charcoal, Oil Pastel, Ink, Paper, Clay, Cardboard and more to allow high levels of competency for the Senior Phase.

Pupils also work on critical studies work to analyse works of famous artists and designers as well as their own and peers work to learn how to improve their skills and justification techniques which are a key elements of Senior Phase exam level study.

Senior Phase (S4)

Within the Senior Phase there are a number of on-going deadlines which are set to support completion of course work & it is important that all pupils do their best to keep up with the work & deadlines set. The course progresses at a faster pace compared to BGE course so meeting the deadlines is key.

If a pupil does not understand what is being asked of them or is having difficulties with any part of the course, there is an open door policy and contact can be made on Teams too, Any problems should be discussed with teacher as soon as they arise to avoid students getting behind.

Homework is regularly set to support with meeting deadlines and completing coursework. On average, I would recommend around 2 hours per week out-with class time should be invested across the 3 components of Expressive, Design and, Theory.  Pupils are welcome to borrow materials from school to progress work at home or use the art rooms at lunchtimes.

If a pupil is absent, work is on their deadline sheet with dates of completion set on Teams.  This is to support all learners as it reminds clarifies instructions. Therefore it is important that the class Team is accessed regularly.  Pupils are expected to catch up on work missed due to absence over time due to amount required to complete both portfolios.

All Development work  – end of January

Final Outcomes – late March
