In March 2018, Sandwick Junior High School and Highlands and Islands Airports Limited (HIAL) signed a partnership agreement which would enable the school and Sumburgh Airport to enhance learning across the curriculum. Such benefits may include;
- Improving learning and teaching by bringing real-life contexts into the classroom (e.g.
contributing to learning on STEM, or languages skills) - A better understanding of the local labour market (helping to ensure that learning is
relevant and supports all young people into positive destinations - More innovative careers information, advice seminars and workshops within the school
- Developing skills for job applications, CV writing and interviews
in February 2019, HIAL are being welcomed into the school to carry out certificated First Aid training with our S4 pupils. It is hoped that through acquiring Health and Safety and First Aid qualifications it will enhance our young peoples employment opportunities upon leaving school.
In addition to our partnership agreement the school has been involved in setting up a successful Mock Interview programme where by local employers are invited into the school to conduct a fictional recruitment process for S4 pupils. This requires pupils to create CVs and prepare for an interview as if it was the real thing.
