Rolling toys

Primary 2 have been designing and making rolling toys.

We decided the best shape for rolling is a circle but, hexagons can work well too. We thought about how a 20p and a 50p roll even though they are not circles.

First we explored a marble run and predicted that the small marbles would roll down the run and the ramp the fastest. We were so surprised that in four out of four attempts the big marble won the race!

Our teacher was very surprised that half of the groups managed to make their toys roll. She had predicted that most of us would glue and stick the wheels. However, a few groups made moving axles so, the wheels turned round. The toy designs that rolled the best were often the simplest designs.

Did your teddy bear fly?

On Friday morning all of P2 went to the Primary 7 balcony and launched their models into the air. There was great excitement and anticipation as we waited to see if each model would fly or crash.

Some of the models flew a little but many crashed onto the playground below.

It was a very windy day so, more of the models flew in the air than we had expected.

We are going to talk about what improvements we could make on our designs to make them fly better.

Open Afternoon

The children thoroughly enjoyed showing off their classrooms to their visitors today. The MUGA tour was very popular and this is where we enjoy our outdoor games sessions.

We did some team building today in PE and had a very positive game of Dodgeball with Mrs Fletcher.

Thank you to all our visitors. We hope you enjoyed your afternoon with us.

In the zone

We planned the zones we would like to see in our classroom today. We looked carefully at the space we have in our class, walked around it and then decided where we thought the zones might go. I wonder who will have the winning plan? We will take our vote on Monday.
