I-pad trip to Kelso

On Wednesday we had a great trip to Kelso to take part in a day planned by the inspire team. We used our I-pads to complete different activities and are looking forward to furthering these skills back in the classroom.
It was so nice to be on a trip out of the classroom after 2 years.

Back in the building…

Our highlight of the week was welcoming parents back into the classroom. We had a great time showing off our photography skills and getting parents involved with the activities. The photos show the work we are most proud of today.

Thank-you to all the parents who made it in today.

Weekly Review 6.5.22

This week has been a short week but we have still managed to get a lot of learning done.

We have continued with our topic on the decades and have been looking at popular music and dance moves from our decade. Next week we are going to record these moves and make a class dance.

In maths we have been looking at rounding numbers with decimals, focussing on rounding to the nearest whole number, tenth or hundredth.  Use the website below to practise rounding decimals… https://www.splashlearn.com/math/round-decimals-games

We have also been looking at perimeter in maths and solving problems using our knowledge of shape and perimeter strategies.

In writing we have edited and made improvements to our persuasive writing pieces from last week. Our teachers have been very impressed by them.

We had our first whole school assembly and it was great being back all together. We sang songs and met our ‘friends of Kingsland’ who are people in the community who work with children and schools in Tweeddale.

We have also had another Wellbeing Wednesday Session and have thoroughly enjoyed playing games, from the different decades, with one another.

In photography, we have started work on portraits and used different camera angles and backgrounds to create some spectacular photos.

Keep up the hard work! Mrs Brown and Mrs Smith

Our Weekly Review

Welcome back Boys and Girls.

This week…

We were introduced to our new writing block. This term we will be looking at exposition writing which is to persuade by arguing one point of view. We looked at an example of a piece of exposition text and then looked closely at this to see what we need to include and what grammar we need to focus on.

We started our maths block on decimals and perimeter. In perimeter we looked at perimeters of rectangles and we had to work out the sides of a rectangle if you only know one side and the perimeter. In decimals we have been looking at place value and the link with decimals and fractions.

We also started our topic work this week. Across P6 and P7, each class are going to be focussing on a decade. P6/7 are looking at the 1970s and P6 are looking at the 1950’s. We began by creating questions on what we want to learn about and then looked at key events that happened in our decade.

We have had a great day today as we began our block of photography. We looked at taking photos in a variety of lighting conditions and adjusting the focus and exposure on what we have snapped. Take a look at some of our examples below. We are really proud of them.

Weekly Review! 1/4/22

What an excellent Final week in P6.

We completed our Volcano art and the pictures are below. They are excellent.

We were given a potato challenge, pictures of the progress of your potatoes can be added to the class teams page.

We completed a natural disasters  simulation where we had to prepare a settlement for an impending natural disaster using our knowledge from our topic. It was great fun.

We really enjoyed our final day, breaking the rules for April fools.

Have a fantastic holiday. See you next term

Potato Challange

We have been given potatoes but will not be in school over the summer to look after them properly so we have created a class challenge.

Everyone has been given a potato to take home and plant. It can be planted in the main garden or even in a pot or bag.

1) Plant the potato about 5 inches under the soil and cover.

2) Water your potato regularly.

3) When the first leaves appear cover them with more soil. (This encourages more potatoes to grow.)

4) When you notice leaves appearing again cover them again with more soil. This will create a mound. Do this two or three times.

5) Continue to water during dry spells.

6) When the leaves start to die back the potatoes are ready to dig up. This should be around September time but it could be earlier.

**Take photos of the process as well as some photos of what you  make with your potatoes.**

**You have the variety – Red Duke of York/Sarpo Una/Casablanca**

Happy Potato Growing.

P6 Weekly Review 21/3/22

This week has been great. We have really enjoyed the great weather at breaks and lunchtimes.

We have continued to learn about fractions and are now all able to convert improper fractions to mixed numbers and back again.

We have been continuing to look at natural disasters and this week we had to research our own choice. We will use what we learn to write our final explanation piece of writing next week.

We completed our final live lesson on coding where we learned to create a “whack-a-mole” game using scratch. We really enjoyed this and have since altered this game as we learn more about coding.

We have worked hard on our paper mache volcanoes. (Some progress pictures are below.) We are looking forward to finishing these next week. Some of our art work this term will be displayed in the corridor. This is a work in progress just now but we can’t wait to see the finished display.
