The children in Primary 1 took home a copy of the sounds and keywords we have been learning in class. Please help your child to practise  these sounds and words over the holiday.

Lots of lions in p1 learning about the l  sound !

Our new sound is “u”. We shared “u” stories, made our own umbrellas and used our sounds to build words with “u” in them.

This week primary 1 are learning about number 10. We have been using our rhyme to help us write 10.

We have been counting sets of 10 and making 10 in different ways using our Cuisenaire  rods

In P1 we have been putting our sounds together to make words. We use our fingers to help us, each time we say/hear a sound we put up a finger. We have been talking  about words with the same sounds rhyming. Mrs Collins helped us to build a sentence,  using finger spaces between each word. We then pointed to each word as we read back what we had written.

P1 continued to talk about the changes brought by autumn.  We shared the story We’re Going On A Leaf Hunt and we went on a walk to gather autumn leaves. We talked about the colours of the leaves and did some rubbings using wax crayons.

In P1 today our new sound was “o”. We listened to a story about Ollie the Octopus who wanted a party with his friends Ostrich and Oscar! We talked about different words with the “o” sound and then made an octopus to take home to help us learn our new sound. We made our octopus’s tentacles by wrapping them round a pen to make curls.

Today we used our cutting skills to make flowers, we had great fun counting the flowers together.

Our challenge in P1 today was to see what we could create with 9 straws. Here are some of our ideas.
   A rocket

A house with a door handle that moves up and down

  A Ladder

  A Kite

  Shapes

In P1 we have been talking about the changes that are beginning  to happen around us. Changes  in the weather and to the trees that are signs of autumn. We painted these autumn trees by applying a wash for the background with watery paint, then we used our brush to paint the trunk and branches of the trees. Finally we painted the leaves using our fingers.
